The Giants came into the 2008 season riding high, but that was silenced a little when star defensive end Osi Omenyiora got hurt for the entire season. With Michael Strahan content on staying retired, the defensive line has many concerns. The Redskins are hoping the addition of Jason Taylor to their defensive front, can give them that edge that helped the Giants when the Super Bowl.
Current odds at JustBet.com
Redskins +3.5(-110)
Giants -3.5(-110)
The Giants will likely have to rely on the offense to score a little more this season, unless someone steps up in Omenyiora’s spot and plays well this season. There are many people saying that last year we witnessed just how good Eli Manning could be, and that he is ready to have a breakout season in 2008. It will help that he has some talented receivers like Plaxico Burress and Amani Toomer to throw the ball to. It will be a little harder without Shockey for a full season, but it looks like Kevin Boss is ready to step up and be the go to guy at tight end. The running game has plenty of depth, as it showed a season ago, but it will be Brandon Jacobs doing the majority of the work. As for the Redskins they are hoping that the addition of some rookie talent at the receiver spots in Malcom Kelly, Devin Thomas, and Fred Davis, can eventually give Campbell the weapons he needs to take his game to the next level. Running back Clinton Portis could really benefit from an improved passing game, as teams will not be able to put so much attention on the star. It will be interesting to see which offense shines, as wins in the NFC East could be hard to come by. Bet Redskins +3.5 at JustBet.com
The Giants were suppose to come in with that dominant defense up front with Justin Tuck and Omenyiora, but now Mathias Kiwanuka moves from linebacker to end to help fill the void. At linebacker the team will be counting on journeyman Danny Clark to step in and get the job done on the outside. The secondary looks to continue to improve, and they are really liking what the see in rookie free safety Kenny Phillips. While Phillips isn’t a starter yet, the Giants are really expecting big things out of this kid. The Redskins defense looks to be solid this season, and adding a player like Taylor, can only make a team better. Playing along side fellow end Adnre Carter, who had 10.5 sacks last season, could mean the Redskins get a ton of pressure on the quarterback. With the up front looking much improved, it will be up to a mix of young and veteran talent at linebacker and in the secondary, as 11 year vet London Fletcher leads the linebacking crew, while 12 year vet Shawn Springs holds down the job at corner. The young guys expected to continue to improve are outside backer Rocky McIntosh, and safeties Reed Doughty and LaRon Landry. It will be interesting to see which team is able to get pressure on the quarterback in this one. Bet Giants -3.5 at JustBet.com
Predicted Score:
