Rice at Oklahoma State Odds

Written by

rice-oklahoma-state-odds-091609The Rice Owls out of Conference-USA have started their 2009 season in awful fashion. They were pounded by UAB in week one and last Saturday got smoked by the Red Raiders from Texas Tech. They have been outscored a combined 99-34 in those two games. Rice has not decided on one QB as both sophomore Nick Fanuzzi and senior John Thomas Shepherd have played equally and have looked horrific to boot. Their version of a running game is when Shepherd, one of their two quarterbacks runs a QB draw or takes off rolling out of the pocket. This will be something that is going to devastate the Owls today as Oklahoma State has linebacker Andre Sexton who will be spying that QB all night long. Toren Dixon and Patrick Randolph aren’t weak wide receivers and if their routes are crisp may have some chances deep tonight. Now, lets focus on this defense, or lack of one I should say. Rice gave up 516 total yards to The UAB Blazers in their opening week loss to then come out in week two and have Texas Tech drop 560 yards of offense on them as they were stomped 55-10. There is not one defensive player on this team worth mentioning and they get the unfortunate task of traveling to Stillwater to face a Cowboys team who will be looking to drop a 70 spot on them after last weeks stunning loss to the Houston Cougars at home. Head Coach David Bailiff will be looking to keep this game respectable and he does have the passing attack to do so as they go up against a secondary who proved last week they can be very vulnerable to the big play. The x-factor in this game will be the Rice offensive line, if they can protect either QB that is in and The Owls can keep it between a 7-13 point game late in the second quarter, they have a shot to cover. If they get down 21-0 at the end of the first, it will be a massacre in Stillwater.  The NCAA football odds for Saturday show Oklahoma State -32.5 points against Rice, and the over/under is set for 66 points.

Wow, what a shocker that game was. After an impressive week one victory at home against a solid Georgia Bulldogs team, they spit the bit at home last weekend as the let down game was in effect. The Houston Cougars from Conference-USA had everybody in a jam packed T. Boone Pickens Stadium with their hands on their heads as they watched their National Championship hopes go right out the window. Tonight QB Zac Robinson, Combo backs Beau Johnson and Keith Toston along with #1 WR Dez Bryant will look to take their anger out on an extremely weak owls team. Linebacker Andre Sexton will play a major role in this game if the Cowboys are to cover this large 32 point spread.. If somebody wanted to single out a reason for concern it would be the awful job their secondary has done so far. With the exception of future NFL player Perrish Cox, nobody has done anything productive. Rice has a decent passing game so late in the game State might be vulnerable to the long play which could play a pivotal role in covering the spread. Coach Mike Gundy (who is a man, he’s 40!) needs to have a serious talk with his defensive staff and sharpen this miscues or their season will be a very unfortunate one. The x-factor for the Cowboys if they cover the spread MUST be Beau Johnson and the running game. We already know that Robinson will pass the ball at will against one of the worst defenses I have ever seen, but if the running game is strong that will prevent Rice from dropping help into the secondary. If that happens, they may not stop scoring…At all.

Haimo’s Hot Notes: Rice is 6-4 in their last 10 games ATS overall. Oklahoma State is 7-3 in their last 10 games ATS at home. The Cowboys were 4-1 last season ATS when being favored by 17 points or more.

Virgina plus 11.5? Remember that, it was only four days ago that you lost and have have still dodged responding to it. What about your losses on the Texans, Sunday, and the Astros, Monday? What happens when you lose two days in a row?

The only GUARANTEE or LOCK CITY is you not coming through.

Where are your “winners,” from yesterday, listed today? The same question you were asked before!

Why have you not listed ALL your MLB losses lately? But, you claim you took the Rays on Monday and the Red Sox last night? Where is this documented?

The “BEST BET” gets cheaper by the day for you…
…but expensive for the rest of us!

I used to believe in you!
