With this article I am going to take a look at my two favorite conferences, the ACC and the SEC, both of which get started on Thursday afternoon. I am a die hard South Carolina fan but have also loved the North Carolina Tar Heels since the mid 70’s when Phil Ford was in charge. Let’s take a look at my current power rankings to see who I think is the favorite to win, and also who could be a sleeper in each.
ACC
1 North Carolina – 94.86
2 Duke – 90.09
3 Clemson – 89.24
4 Wake Forest – 88.48
5 Florida St. – 87.28
6 Miami – 84.35
7 Virginia Tech – 83.43
8 Maryland – 82.55
9 Boston College – 81.35
10 NC State – 80.69
11 Virginia – 79.66
12 Georgia Tech – 78.22
No surprises here as the Tar Heels have been the cream of the crop this year in the ACC, followed by Duke, Clemson and Wake Forest. Georgia Tech and Virginia are the cellar dwellars and shouldn’t make it too long in the tournament.
Team to Win: North Carolina
Sleeper Team: Wake Forest
SEC
1 Auburn – 90.02
2 Alabama – 85.98
3 Tennessee – 85.02
4 Vanderbilt – 84.22
5 LSU – 83.85
6 Florida – 82.8
7 S. Carolina – 82
8 Mississippi St. – 81.04
9 Kentucky – 79.45
10 Mississippi – 78.24
11 Arkansas – 75.61
12 Georgia – 70.73
Probably a big surprise here as I have Auburn at #1 and Alabama at #2, but I still wouldn’t be shocked if these two make early tournament exits. I like how Tennessee has been playing and would take them to win it.
Team to Win: Tennessee
Sleeper Team: South Carolina
