The Dallas Mavericks look to start of their 2008-09 campaign on the right track. After being considered one of the best teams in the West in previous years, the Mavericks had a down year according to their standards. One thing is certain; they can still put up points. Dallas averaged over 100 points per game last year and all signs lead towards them doing that once against this year, as they averaged 102 points per game in the preseason. The early line at Bookmaker is Dallas -5 with the total being set at 191.
Jason Kidd will lead the way for the Mavericks this year. Kidd is still one of the best passing point guards in the NBA. Last year Kidd averaged 9.5 assists and had an outstanding 3.41 assist to turnover ration. Kidd has many weapons to distribute the ball to. Dirk Nowitzki will look to have another MVP-type season. The all star averaged over 23 points per game last season. Everyone knows that Nowitzki and Kidd will produce for this Maverick team game in and game out. The two difference makers on this team will be Josh Howard and Jason Terry. If Howard and Terry can play at their top of their games this season, the Mavericks will be a force to be reckoned with.
Houston is coming off a sloppy win against Memphis last night. Houston is a solid team, but is just 2-10 in their last 12 meetings in Dallas.
