Baseball Predictions: Kansas City Royals at Oakland A’s
Written May 13, 2009 by Jordan Haimowitz
Well, it was just a matter of time until the Royals fall back to their usual ways. They are currently on a four game losing streak and can’t seem to do anything right. While they still sit 18-15, the pitching has began to fade while the production from the plate has been minimal. Everybody knows the headline of how Zack Greinke has been Sandy Koufax like un-hittable. Gil Meche is solid as well. Tonight another starter who is pitching way over his head takes the mound, that is Brian Bannister who is 3-0 through six starts this year with a 1.48 ERA. The Royals have not scored more then three runs in any of their past five games. Bannister, while looking sharp this year, struggled last season against the Athletics going 0-1 with a 4.24 ERA in three starts. Oakland as a team hit .316 off him and last years team is no where near as good as this years. A key for Kansas City tonight will be the bottom half of their lineup. They have done just next to nothing recently and will need some decent production from John Buck and Albert Callaspo. Coco Crisp has been a huge addition as well as Mike Jacobs. The slide is in motion and unless the hitting picks up it will continue. Wednesday’s baseball lines show the A’s at -115 over the Royals with the total set at 8.5 runs.
The Oakland A’s are 12-18 on the season. The fact they are six games under .500 is perplexing considering the talent they have in their lineup. The additions of Orlando Cabrera, Jason Giambi and superstar outfielder Matt Holliday had this team believing they would be competitive this year. That has not been the case. Giambi has been very poor from the plate while Cabrera is hitting .238 with no homers and 10 RBIs. Matt Holliday also started slow but has picked it up as of late. He has four home runs and 22 RBIs to date. Tonight Oakland sends young rookie Josh Outman to the mound who has a ton of talent. he has struggled so far this year not going five innings in three of his four starts. Outman has been used mostly out of the bullpen but has starter caliber production in him. Look for him to have his coming out party tonight. Expect the x-factor to be Matt Holliday as he has been on fire over the past week and seems to be getting used to his new surrounding. I also see Orlando Cabrera playing well tonight. The A’s are a slight favorite, real good value in this game..
Haimo’s Hot Notes: The Royals have lost their last four games. As stated above they have not scored more then three runs in any of their last five games played. The A’s are 2-7 in their last nine games as a favorite. Head to head, The Royals are 6-4 in their last 10 games against Oakland. Tonight these trends mean nothing. The A’s have a completely different team for better or worse then they did last season. Kansas City has great pitching numbers. A little over exaggerated but very productive none the less. The slide will reach five tonight. Oakland is the play.
Betting Line: Kansas City Royals -105/Oakland Athletics -115
Jordan’s Picks: Oakland A’s -115
A solid bounce back night as we nailed the Jays as our BEST BET and the UNDER 8.5 in the same game as Roy Halladay showed once again why he is the best pitcher in baseball (Johan is a good argument). The Pads were up 2-0 and looking strong until Peavy blew up. Milton Bradley took him deep which gave the Cubs a 3-2 lead and it was off from there as the pads lost 6-2. But, a nice profit night as we go two for three hitting out two bigger plays. The profit margin continues to climb while the percentages just grow by the day. Lets get busy.
