Saints DE Grant Out For Playoffs
Written January 5, 2010 by Jason Lowry
The New Orleans Saints have a week to get ready for their playoff run, but according to ESPN, the Saints will be without defensive end Charles Grant for the postseason, as he was placed on IR with a triceps injury. To replace the injured Grant, the Saints have went out and re-signed defensive end veteran defensive end Paul Spicer.
Grant had started every this season, and put together a pretty solid season with 53 tackles and 5.5 sacks. This could end up being a big loss for the Saints if someone is unable to step in and play up to Grant’s level. They still have the very talented Will Smith on the other side of the line, who has racked up 13 sacks this season. It’s unlike Spicer jumps right into the starting lineup, as Bobby McCray and Jeff Charleston are likely to get first crack at the open job.
Though the defense has played great at times this year for the Saints, they are not going to win the Super Bowl on this side of the football. The offense is what got the Saints this far, and it will have to be what carries them the rest of the way.
Be sure to keep a close eye on all the injuries that the Saints are dealing with, as they will definitely impact their NFL odds for their upcoming playoff game. This team is very talented and if they can get healthy and back in the form that they started the season, they might be a little better than everyone has them going into the postseason.
