Saints vs. Broncos Predictions
Written September 17, 2008 by Jason Lowry
Sunday Sept. 21, get ready as an offense show should be in store when Reggie Bush and the New Orleans Saints head to Denver to take on Jay Cutler and the Broncos. Last week the Saints looked to have it wrapped up against the Redskins, but slipped in the final quarter and wound up losing 29-24. The Broncos got a free gift when the ref failed to make the right call on a fumble, and they got to keep the ball, and the next thing you know they scored a late touchdown and converted a two point conversion to win the game and go 2-0.

The Saints offense did its job scoring 24 points through 3 quarters, but failed to score when they needed it most when the defense allowed two late 4th quarter touchdowns. Drew Brees threw for 216 yards and a score, but did have to costly interceptions. The team again tried its best to get Reggie Bush the ball, as he ran 10 times for 28 yards and had 7 catches for 63. And while Duece McAllister played, he only ran twice. Robert Meachem was the go to go in the endzone as he hauled in the only touchdown through the air for the Saints. This offense will definitely have to get it going this weekend against the Broncos, as they look to have one of the better offenses in the league.
The Saints defense played solid football for most of the game, but Jason Campbell and Clinton Portis took over in the 4th quarter when it mattered most, as Portis first took in a 8 yard score as part of his 96 yards he racked up, and Campbell hit Santana Moss on a 67 yard bomb to take the lead with a little over 3 mins to go. Campbell ended throwing for 321 yards, and this unit has to get better against the pass or Cutler and company are going to throw all over them. Bet Saints +5.5 at JustBet.com
Speaking of quarterback Jay Cutler he looked like the quarterback the Broncos have been saying he was all along, as he threw for 350 yards and 4 touchdowns, including the last second touchdown and 2pt conversion strikes to rookie receiver Eddie Royal. But the guy who stole the show was Brandon Marshall who played in his first game of the season, and just racked up 18 catches for 166 yards. The running game was solid as well, as a combo of backs ran for 145 yards, including Selvin Young who led the way with 78 yards on just 8 carries. If this is any indication for what this unit is going to do over a 16 game season, this team is going to be a serious threat for not only a playoff birth, but the AFC West crown.
The Broncos defense had a 31-17 lead going into the half, but let the Chargers score 10 quick ones in the early goings of the 3rd quarter and 10 more in the 4th. So after looking good in the early goings things really turned around as the Chargers wound up going up 38-31. The defense gave up 377 yards and 3 scores through the air, and the run defense was really helped out by LT sitting most of the game out. The defense has to be able to play all four quarters or they are going to be in another tough one against Brees and company. Bet Broncos -5.5 at JustBet.com
