San Diego Chargers 2009 Schedule

Written June 8, 2009 by InfoPlays

san-diego-chargers-schedule-2009After a season plagued my injuries, most notably Shawn Merriman, the Chargers are looking to return back to AFC supremacy in 2009. The Chargers managed to win their final game of the season to improve to 8-8 and edge out the Broncos for the AFC West crown, but an 8-8 mark again in ‘09 would be another underachieving season. With Merriman back, the Chargers won’t be hemorrhaging points like they did a season ago, and their offense shouldn’t miss a beat. Odds makers project San Diego to finish with 10.5 wins this season. Now I’ll show you where their wins and losses should come from so we can see if they’ll meet this lofty expectations.  See all of the 2009 NFL projected win totals.  If you plan to betting the NFL this fall, you owe it to yourself to take advantage of our $500 match bonus with BetUS.  Just open a new account, deposit at least $500, and you’ll get a $500 bonus!

The Chargers open the pre-season at home against the Seattle Seahawks on August 15th. Then they’ll hit the road to face the Arizona Cardinals on August 22nd a week later. The Chargers stay on the road to clash with the Atlanta Falcons on August 29th. Their pre-season finale takes place at home on September 4th against their in-state foe San Francisco 49ers.  Pick up your 2009 San Diego Chargers tickets at StubHub!

Week 1 - Monday, September 14th at the Oakland Raiders – The Raiders aren’t ready to knock off the Chargers this early in the season. San Diego opens with a nice road win in AFC West play.

Week 2 - Sunday, September 20th at home against the Baltimore Ravens – A dog fight, but the Chargers prevail at home.

Week 3 - Sunday, September 27th at home against the Miami Dolphins – Miami doesn’t have the offensive firepower to hang with the Chargers on the road.

Week 4 - Sunday, October 4th at the Pittsburgh Steelers – San Diego hung tough with Pittsburgh on the road last year, but they get beat again by the defending champs on the road.

Week 6 – Monday, October 19th at home against the Denver Broncos – San Diego makes easy work of this divisional game against the Broncos.

Week 7 - Sunday, October 25th at the Kansas City Chiefs – This will be a serious test, but the Chargers will be up to the task as they improve to 5-1 on the season.

Week 8 - Sunday, November 1st at home against the Oakland Raiders – Oakland doesn’t stand a chance at San Diego. The Chargers will be a double-digit favorite most likely here.

Week 9 – Sunday, November 8th at the New York Giants – The Giants have the winning formula to beat the Chargers. The pressure they get from the defensive front 7 will give Philip Rivers fits.

Week 10 - Sunday, November 15th at home against the Philadelphia Eagles – San Diego will be a field goal favorite at home and that’s likely the margin they win by here.

Week 11 – Sunday, November 22nd at the Denver Broncos – Denver gets one of their biggest wins of the season at Mile High.

Week 12 - Sunday, November 29th at home against the Kansas City Chiefs – The Chiefs gave the Chargers all they could handle in San Diego last season, so they’ll be ready for a good effort from K.C. But once again it won’t be enough to win, San Diego takes this one.

Week 13 – Sunday, December 6th at the Cleveland Browns – Could see the Chargers losing here, but it’s more likely they come out on top against the over-matched Browns.

Week 14 – Sunday, December 13th at the Dallas Cowboys – Dallas wins this late-season clash at home.

Week 15 – Sunday, December 20th at home against the Cincinnati Bengals – The Chargers make easy work of the Bengals at home.

Week 16 - Friday, December 25th at the Tennessee Titans – Tennessee also gives Rivers fits by getting after him the entire game, and forcing a couple turnovers to come away with a win at home.

Week 17 - Sunday, January 3rd at home against the Washington Redskins – The Chargers conclude a fine season with a home victory over the Redskins, who clearly cannot hang with San Diego offensively.

The odds makers are pretty close on this one. I have San Diego finishing with an 11-5 record, baring a letdown along the way. So I’ll be siding with the OVER 10.5 wins on the projected win total for the Chargers.
