Seahawks at Texans NFL Betting Lines
Written December 12, 2009 by Riley Martin
Both Seattle and Houston look to gain some ground this week and work towards a chance at a winning season; both currently have a 5-7 record. Houston especially needs a win, as they have lost 4 games straight. Coming into the season, many believed this could be Houston’s coming out party, but so far they haven’t showed it. They have showed signs through out the season and even kept almost all of their games close, but haven’t been able to finish. I completely project this one as a hard fought game and as of now, college football odds have the Houston Texans as 7-point favorites at home.
Matt Hasselbeck’s sore throwing shoulder hasn’t been too much of a help in recent weeks, as Seattle desperately needs him in full strength. He’s currently listed as probable and should start again. For Seattle to win this game they are going to need him at full speed and strength, otherwise I believe Houston will be too strong at home. The running game has also got to step up for this Seahawk team. They remain in the bottom half of the NFL so far, producing a poor 93.4 rushing yards a game. Another interesting side note about this team is their road record, which stands at 1-5. Seattle, so far, has not been an impressive team when playing on the road. In fact, when losing on the road, they have lost by an average of 17.2 points per game. Their only win on the road is not too impressive either, as it came against the Rams, who we all know are atrocious. All signs point to a Houston win, but with Hasselbeck in good health, as he plans to be, it’s hard to predict. Houston has absolutely no room for a letdown this week. Their 5-7 record has to already be embarrassing enough, considering they have nothing to show for how much better they have performed this year. They could just as easily be sitting here with a 9-3, or even a 10-2 record. But in the end, obviously, close games don’t cut it and all that matters at the end of the day are wins and losses. For this game with Seattle, I fully expect them to come out ready to play, so long as Schaub is healthy enough to keep that passing game up to the usual.
Houston has too much going for them in this game, so I feel pretty confident in taking them in this one. With four straight losses, they’re bound for a win, and on top of that, Seattle’s road performances thus far have been awful. In addition, Houston has also had three straight ATS losses, bringing the chances of a win this week even higher. Take Houston to cover the spread at home.
Riley’s Pick: Houston -7
My Prediction: Houston 31 Seattle 17
