Seattle Seahawks vs. Arizona Cardinals NFL Betting Odds & Spread
Written December 25, 2008 by Jason Lowry

The Arizona Cardinals might want to start thinking about actually playing football before the playoffs come around, as they got blown out for the 2nd straight week, and the 4th time their last 5 games. I understand that they have had the division locked up and there really isn’t much to play for, but who wants to go into the postseason playing like crap. This Sunday the Cardinals get one last shot to get their act together, as they host the Seattle Seahawks, who put a damper on the Jets season last week with a 10-3 win at home. The Cardinals on the other hand were awful, as the Patriots beat them 47-7 in the snow. If you are looking to do a little NFL betting on the game this weekend, the oddsmakers have the Cardinals 6 point favorites over the Seahawks at Sportsbook.com.
With the big win over the Jets last week, the Seahawks have now won 2 straight, but sadly for them it only gives them 4 wins on the season. The Seahawks have to think they can grab number 3 this week, as they played the Cardinals to a 6 point game back in November when the Cardinals were still playing for the division title. Last week there wasn’t much offensive to speak of, as the games only touchdown came on a 2 yard pass from Seneca Wallace to John Carlson in the 2nd quarter. Running back Maurice Morris did most of the damage running for 116 yards on 29 carries, but Wallace was efficient completing 18 of 25 attempts for 175 yards and a score. With the game in Arizona we expect the Cardinals offense to pick it up, and that means the Seahawks better find a way to score along with them, or this one could get ugly.
Looking at the defense of the Seahawks you to be a little concerned about how they play on stopping Kurt Warner this time around, as the former league MVP threw for 395 yards last time these two teams hooked up. Yes, the Seahawks held Brett Favre and the Jets to just 3 points, but the conditions were miserable and nobody knows Brett Favre better than Seattle’s head coach Mike Holmgren. If they can keep it close early the Cardinals might pull some of their starters late, so the Seahawks could sneak out a win late, but we really feel like the Cardinals need to win this football game to get their confidence in the right place for the playoffs. The Cardinals not only got their butts kicked last week, but they were a 78 yard touchdown pass from Matt Leinart to Larry Fitzgerald from being completely shutout. Kurt Warner started the game and wound up having one of his worst performances ever in the NFL, as he completed just 6 of 18 passes for 30 yards before being sent to the bench. It wasn’t all Warner’s fault in this one, as the running game was once again non-existent and the offensive line struggled to keep the Patriots out of the backfield, as Warner was under heavy pressure the whole time he was in there. This team has to get it clicking this weekend, and we think Warner and company will do just that.
The Cardinals defense really put a big concern on the face of their fans last week, as they let the Patriots move the ball with ease, and had the Patriots wanted to they probably could of scored over 70 in this one. They let Matt Cassel throw for 345 yards and 3 touchdowns in the snow, and had no answer for the running game, as Sammy Morris and LaMont Jordan combined for 166 yards and 2 scores. The Cardinals aren’t use to playing in the snow, and going back home to Arizona should bring the defenses level of play up a notch or two. Bet Arizona Cardinals -6 at Sportsbook.com.
Lowry’s Lean on the Game: Cardinals -6
Like I have said throughout this article, the Cardinals need this win a lot more than some people might think with a playoff spot already locked up. The Cardinals are not a good enough team to just turn the switch on and start playing excellent football, as this team likely wouldn’t even be in the playoffs if they didn’t play in the NFC West. With that said I think the Cardinals coaches know that and they will do what it takes to get the win this weekend, and if that means pour it on early, thats just what they will do.
Predicted Score: Cardinals 35 Seahawks 20
