Seahawks Giants Line
Written by Steve Janus
The New York Giants will go for their fourth straight win when they host the Seattle Seahawks in week 5 action. The Giants scored 21 points in the fourth quarter to beat the Arizona Cardinals 31-27 to improve to 3-1 after after losing the season opener at Washington. Seattle fell short of their comeback attempts against the Falcons, losing 28-30 to drop to 1-3 on the season. New York has won two straight in the series, including a 41-7 win at Seattle last year.
Taking a look at the week 5 NFL lines, oddsmakers currently have the Giants favored by 9.5-points over the Seahawks with the total set at 43 points.
Seattle Seahawks:
While the Seahawks ended up on the wrong end of the scoreboard last week against Atlanta, there are a lot of positives the Seahawks can take from the loss. Seattle trailed 27-7 with 13:50 left in the third quarter and could have easily called it quits. Instead this team rallied to score three late second half touchdowns to nearly pull of a huge upset.
Seattle scored 28 points in the loss to Atlanta, which is pretty impressive considering they had scored just 30 points combined in the first three games. Tarvaris Jackson and the passing attack is what got the Seahawks back in the game. While Jackson threw his first two interceptions of the season, he completed 25 of 38 attempts for 319 yards and three touchdowns.
The return of wide out Sidney Rice has really got the offense going. Rice had eight catches for 109 yards in his season debut in Seattle’s lone win over Arizona and added another three catches for 79 yards and a score in the loss to Atlanta. Rice was one of seven Seattle players who finished with at least three catches last week.
What has really hurt Seattle is their inability to run the football. They are second to last in the NFL with an average of just 67.5 yards per game on the ground. Marshawn Lynch leads the team with just 141 yards on 46 attempts.
The Seahawks will have a great opportunity to keep the offense rolling this week, as they face a Giants defense that has not looked good early on. New York is 18th against the pass (244.3 ypg) and 21st against the run (116.5 ypg).
New York Giants:
The Giants looked like they were headed for a long season after losing 14-28 in the opener against the Redskins, but three straight wins have this team thinking playoffs. New York has a great shot at starting the season 6-1 with three straight home games against Seattle, Buffalo, and Miami.
Eli Manning and the Giants offense really struggled to get anything going early on last week against the Cardinals, but were able to put up three fourth quarter touchdowns to escape with a win. Manning threw for 321 yards and two touchdowns, giving him eight touchdowns to just one interceptions over his last three games.
Hakeem Nicks really stepped up with a big when the Giants needed it last week, catching a season-high 10 passes for 162 yards and touchdown. New York also got another big game out of Victor Cruz, who had six catches for 98 yards. Cruz has nine catches for 208 yards and two touchdowns in the last two games.
While the Giants have to be happy with the win, this team would like to start getting a more consistent effort out of running backs Ahmad Bradshaw and Brandon Jacobs. Bradshaw and Jacobs each had a rushing touchdown, but combined for just 57 yards on 21 attempts.
Betting Trends:
Seattle is 8-20 ATS in their last 28 road games vs. a team with a winning home record.
New York is 4-9 ATS in their last 13 games as a home favorite.
