Seattle Seahawks at New York Giants Football Predictions
Written October 2, 2008 by Jason Lowry

Not only have the defending champion New York Giants (3-0) came out of the gates just as strong as they ended their Super Bowl run last season, but they actually look like the best team in the NFC East right now, with the Cowboys clubhouse a mess, the Eagles battling injuries, and they already handled the Redskins. This wee the Giants host the Seattle Seahawks (1-2) this weekend, and both teams come into the matchup off a bye week. The oddsmakers aren’t thinking the Seahawks have much of a chance in this one, as they have the Giants favored by 7 at Sportsbook.com
The Seahawks come in only a half game behind both the 49ers and Cardinals in the NFC West, so its not like the season is anywhere from over. The offense has picked it up over the last couple of games, but their 37 point outburst against the Rams is nothing special considering the shape of that defense. Quarterback Matt Hasselbeck has felt the pain of his wide receiver as 6 are nursing injuries and 3 are on the IR. So no surprise that the two leading receivers in John Carlson and Billy McMullen are players many know anything about. It does look like Deion Branch and Bobby Engram are going to give it a go this weekend, so mabye this offense can get something going. The running game has found a nice surprise in Julious Jones who has 312 yards and a nice 5.1 ypc on the season.

The Seahawks defense was the strength of their 2007 season, but that hasn’t been the case this season, as they have given up over 30 points in every game. They aren’t giving up a ton of yardage, but teams are still finding ways to put points on the board. The defense could really use defensive end Patrick Kerney to have another big game against the Giants and get some much needed pressure on Eli Manning. Bet Seahawks -7 at Sportsbook.com
Speaking of Eli Manning and that Giants offense, they will be without star receiver Plaxico Burress who has been the go to guy with 18 receptions for 259 this season. That means veteran Amani Toomer and the youngsters like Steve Smith and Kevin Boss. Brandon Jacobs has been the work horse for this defense, but Derrick Ward is also having a pretty good season as well. In their last game against the Bengals the Giants struggled to find the endzone as they kicked 3 field goals including the game winning one in overtime. After having such a rough time at home in 2007, the Giants are now 2-0 at home, and will look to keep that rolling this weekend.
The Giants defense continues to play well even with the losses it has suffered up front, as Justin Tuck is a beast up front. So far on the season the Giants have been tough as nails against the run giving up just 74 yards a game, but the pass defense hasn’t been quite so good, as they are giving up nearly 215 yards a game. Part of that plays into the part of how much the Rams and Bengals like to throw the football, and we think the Seahawks are going to test that run defense to the limit this weekend.
