Seahawks Steelers Line

The Pittsburgh Steelers are set to host the Seattle Seahawks in week 2 of NFL action. Both teams will look to bounce back from blowout losses to open the season. Pittsburgh was dominated by the Baltimore Ravens 35-7, while Seattle fell 17-33 at San Francisco. Pittsburgh has won two straight in the series, but they haven’t played since 2007.

Oddsmakers aren’t giving Seattle any shot of winning this one. Week 2 NFL odds have the Steelers favored by 14-points over the Seahawks with the total set at 40.5.

Seattle Seahawks:

It just wasn’t meant to be for the Seahawks against the 49ers. Seattle looked like they were done for after trailing 0-16 at half, but they trailed  just 17-19 after Tarvaris Jackson hit Doug Baldwin on a 55 yard touchdown pass with 3:56 left in the fourth quarter. Things went all downhill from there. Ted Ginn Jr. returned the ensuing kickoff 102 yards for a touchdown and then a minute later took a returned a punt 55 yards for score.

Seattle turned the ball over three times and finished with just 219 yards of total offense. Jackson threw for 197 yards with two touchdowns and an interception.  If it wasn’t for that 55-yard touchdown pass to Baldwin Jackson’s stats would have been a lot worse. Even with that pass he averaged just 5.3 yards per attempt.

The ground game wasn’t much better. Marshawn Lynch carried it 13 times for 33 yards, and the Seahawks finished with just 64 yards as a team.

Despite the score, Seattle’s defense stepped up and played a pretty good game. They held the 49ers to just 209 yards of total offense and played outstanding redzone defense, holding the 49ers to four short field goals.

Pittsburgh Steelers:

The Steelers were absolutely embarrassed in their opening week loss to the Ravens. Pittsburgh didn’t come ready to play and were down 0-14 by the end of the first quarter. They would score a touchdown to make it 7-14, but it was all down hill from there.

The Steelers turned the ball over seven times to the Ravens, four fumbles and three interceptions. I don’t care how good you are, you aren’t going to win a game with that many turnovers.

Ben Roethlisberger went just 22 of 41 for 280 yards with one touchdown to those three picks. The lone touchdown came on a 11-yard pass to Emanuel Sanders. Mike Wallace had a team-high eight catches for 107 yards.

The running game managed just 66 yards on 16 carries. Rashard Mendenhall carried it 12 times for 45 yards, but was a non-factor once the Ravens took such a big lead.

Defensively the Steelers have to be wondering what the heck happened, as the Ravens offensive line completely dominated that game. Pittsburgh allowed Joe Flacco to throw for 224 yards and were torched on the ground for 170 yards. The Steelers allowed a league-low 62.8 yards per game on the ground last year.

Betting Trends:

Pittsburgh is just 5-13 ATS in their last 18 games as a favorite of 10.5 or greater.

Seattle is only 6-21 ATS in their last 27 games as a road underdog.
