Seattle Seahawks Odds to Win 2011 Super Bowl

The Seattle Seahawks (7-9) became the only team in NFL history with a losing record to win their division. Seattle beat St. Louis 16-6 in Week 17 to take down the NFC West, and now will be in the playoffs as the No. 4 seed where they will host the New Orleans Saints in the wild-card round this Saturday. Not surprisingly, the Seahawks are the biggest long shot to win it all. You will find Seattle at +8000 to win Super Bowl XLV.
Seattle will be facing New Orleans for a second time this season, with the Saints topping the Seahawks 34-19 in the Superdome back on November 21. The Seahawks may be facing a tired team in the wild-card round, as New Orleans will be playing their third game in 12 days. Matt Hasselbeck threw for a season-high 366 yards against the Saints in their first meeting, and coincidentally his two best games over the past six seasons in terms of passing yards have come against the Saints. He also threw for 362 yards back in October of 2007. The lines for this game show us odds of New Orleans -10 over Seattle with a total set of 44 points.
Hasselbeck will be making the start Saturday despite the fact that backup Charlie Whitehurst played mistake-free football in their season finale against the Rams. Whitehurst completed 22-of-36 passes for 192 yards and a touchdown without throwing an interception. But playoff experience was certainly a factor in head coach Pete Carroll’s decision, and Hasselbeck has proven he has what it takes to take a team to a Super Bowl having done it a few years back in a loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Seattle owns the 28th-ranked offense in the league at 298 total yards per game, and the 27th-ranked defense in the NFL at 369 total yards per game allowed. The offense has been hampered by a rushing offense that is second-to-last in the NFL at 89.0 yards per game. It’s a big reason why their quarterback play hasn’t been up to par. The defense has to take a lot of the blame as well, as Seattle is usually playing from behind which forces them to abort the run.
The Seahawks defense did come up with their best performance of the season last week and it couldn’t have come at a better time. Seattle gave up just 184 total yards to St. Louis, and forced seven three-and-outs in 13 Rams possessions. The Seahawks did go 5-3 at home this season and have one of the best home-field advantages in the league in terms of crowd noise. But even if they are to get by the Saints, which is highly unlikely, they’ll have to put their 2-6 road record to the test. It would not be a wise move to place a wager on the Seahawks to reach the Super Bowl, in fact it’s basically throwing your money away despite getting such great odds.
Got something to say?
