Single Player Blackjack Versus Multiple Players
Written by Jack Jones
There are some of you out there that think it is easier to beat single player blackjack than when there are additional players at the table. Casino gambling expert Mark Pilarski takes a look at this question and gives his response below.
The number of players on a game makes a duck’s egg difference in terms of the game being beatable. The house edge remains the same if there are one, two, three, or even five players on the table. However, because the speed of play slows with multiple players, you end up playing fewer hands per hour, and since the casino has a built-in edge on all play (except play by card counters), you will, theoretically, lose less money. So, for most players, a multiplayer game is more favorable, not less as it slows the pace of the game (and thus their losing) down.
By the way playing decisions made by other players at your table will not affect your expected return. If some idiot on third base splits tens, yep, it’s annoying, but statistically it makes zero difference to you over the long haul. This is a very common complaint from players at the table though, especially if it ends up costing everyone at the table a winning hand.
Knowing that the actions of another player doesn’t make a difference or really help me keep me cool when someone costs me a win, but deep down I know that the player is losing at a higher rate than I am and will probably be busted off of the table in a matter of no time at all.
Got something to say?
