Sixers Brand Out With Shoulder Injury
Written December 18, 2008 by Jack Jones

Now it looks like Philadelphia 76ers forward Elton Brand will miss the next month due to a dislocated shoulder. Sixers officials are saying that the team’s leading scorer has a fracture and tear in his right shoulder but that the good news is that he will not need surgery. The injury occured during the team’s 93-88 win over the Milwuakee Bucks on Wednesday night.
Brand has had injury problems in the past, so this shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone, but for Philly fans it’s a real disappointment after the team signed the start to a five-year, $80 million deal in July. He has averaged 15.9 points and 9.8 rebounds per game this season, but hasn’t had the impact most expected. This is a Philadelphia team that made the playoffs last year and expectations were high coming into the season, especially with the signing of Brand; however, a 9-14 start led to the firing of head coach Maurice Cheeks. Cheeks even finished fourth in last year’s coach of the year voting. Philadelphia is off to a 2-0 start under their interim coach Tony DiLeo.
Brand’s injury will most certainly have an effect on the NBA odds for when Philadelphia travels to Washington tomorrow night. Just another thing to keep in mind if you are going to be doing any NBA betting on the game.
