Written May 27, 2008 by Jason Lowry
is weekend the EliteXC is working with CBS for the first of many “Saturday Night Fights” that will be aired on national television for free. The event is set to take place at the Prudential Center in Newark, NJ on May31st. We are here today to talk about the main event of this fight, as internet sensation Kevin “Kimbo Slice” Ferguson is going to take on James “The Colossus” Thompson. There will definitely be some fireworks in this fight, as both fighters love to come at you with a fury of punches. While this is Thompson’s 23rd MMA fight, it is only going to be the 3rd for Ferguson. While there are plenty of other good fights on the card for Saturday night we wanted to take a closer look and give you our predictions on the Slice vs. Thompson fight. Here is a look at each fighter and what they will be bringing to the table.

Rarely do you hear this guy called by his real name so we are going to refer to him as Kimbo Slice from now on. Slice is still very raw when it comes to MMA fighting skills, but he might be one of the hardest punchers we have seen. Slice made a name for himself well before he became a MMA fighter. He is a legend in backyard street fights and there are numerous youtube videos to show just how scary this guy is. Slice is unbeaten so far in the MMA, with his most impressive when coming in his last fight against Tank Abbott, who he knocked out in the first round. Slice has yet to fight a true MMA fighter, as he continues to work with former UFC Champion and MMA legend Bas Rutten. Slice is easily the most popular fighter in the EliteXC, and is worth the price of admission even if the fight only last a minute into the first round.
James “The Colossus” Thompson +400 at Bodoglife.com
Thompson is a veteran PrideFC fighter that seems to either knock his opponent out or he gets knocked out. Thompson does have some impressive wins over Dan Severn, Hidehiko Yoshida, and Don Frye, but has looked unimpressive in his last two fights. In his last fight Brett Rogers sent him to the floor in the middle of the first round and the fight before that Neil Grove sent him packing in less than 10 seconds. Thompson knows what he is getting into with Slice, and if he is able to land a good hard shot on him, there is no question that Thompson could walk away from this one victorious.
Winner: Kimbo Slice -600 at Bodoglife.com
You have to be a little crazy to fight this guy in any situation, as he is one of the toughest fighters you will ever see. His weakness has to be in inexperience in the ground game, but he shouldn’t have too much to worry about in this fight as Thompson has forced a submission on an opponent in over 5 years. We feel that Slice will be able to exploit Thompson’s weak chin and after an entertaining 30 seconds of punches send Thompson to the canvas with one of his devastating right hands. So sit back relax and watch Slice destroy Thompson. Don’t expect this to go the distance as Thompson has only done so once in his long career.
The guys at MMABetting Blog agree with our Kimbo Slice knockout prediction as well.
