Smith Wants out of Baltimore
Written February 8, 2010 by Jason Lowry
It has been a pretty quite run in the NFL for 2006 Heisman Trophy winner Troy Smith, as he has spent the first three seasons of his career as a backup. Well it appears that Smith wants a shot a playing quarterback and likely for a different team than the Baltimore Ravens. With all the success Joe Flacco has had since being drafted, it doesn’t appear Smith has much of a chance of starting with the Ravens.
According to the Baltimore Sun, Smith’s agent asked the team to trade Smith back in December, but the team ignored the request. Their have been rumors that both the Buffalo Bills and the Cleveland Browns have shown some interest in Smith, and could be working hard to make a trade happen. The problem is the Ravens might not want to just give Smith away, as he is a solid backup to have incase your No.1 goes down.
I think that if a team is willing to give the Ravens a third round pick they will definitely pull the trigger, but anything less than that is tough to call. I for one hope Smith gets a shot to show what he has to offer, as I never like to see Heisman winners not get a shot to play in the NFL. I’m not saying I think Smith can take a team to Super Bowl, but you never know until the man gets a chance.

Got something to say?

Even though I think the current quarterback is a good fit for the ravens his lack of mobility is a definitely a hindrance because he can’t run away from anyone. Smith on the other hand is very mobile and I think he has a better command of the huddle. Joe F didn’t play up to his capabilities in the last six or seven games consequently I would have put Smith in to spice up the offense. Anytime your quarterback is passing for less than 100 yards you need to do something. If he was injured in a backup should have been playing.
