Nebraska at Oklahoma Football Betting Odds & Spread

Written October 29, 2008 by Jason Lowry

Now the game between the No.4 Oklahoma Sooners and the Nebraska Cornhuskers isn’t the biggest game the Big 12 has to offer this week, but don’t tell that to the fans of these two schools, as this is the only game that matters when these two schools lock up. The Sooners rolled past Kansas State on the road last week 58-35, while the Cornhuskers won for the 2nd straight time after suffering a tough 3 game losing streak against some of the nations better teams. The oddsmakers aren’t giving the Cornhuskers much of a chance in this one, as Oklahoma comes in 22 point favorites over the Cornhuskers at Sportsbook.com

The Cornhuskers had it going on the offensive side of things scoring in every quarter, and racking up 32 points, but they are going to likely have to score even more points this week if they want any chance of keeping this game close. Running back Marlon Lucky led the way with 83 yards and a score on the ground, but quarterback Joe Ganz had 336 yards through the air, and two touchdown strikes to receiver Nate Swift, who had 11 catches for 121 yards on the day. Ganz will have to have another big game this week, or this game will get ugly fast on the road.

The Cornhuskers defense gave up 20 first half points, and it looked like Nebraska was going to possibly get upset at home against the Baylor Bears, but the defense was stout in the 2nd half, shutting out the Bears, and allowing the offense to get the team back in front for the win. The defense has its hands full this weekend against the Sooners, as they are scoring a ton of points on everyone this season. Bet Nebraska +22 at Sportsbook.com

The Sooners offense puts on a show each and every week, and last week was no different as they put up 58 on the Wildcats. Quarterback Sam Bradford wasn’t to sharp completing just 13 of 32 passes, but still had 255 yards through the air and 3 scores. While Chris Brown led the way on the ground with 142 yards and a score, the real story of the day was the play of Dan Morgan who combined for 163 yards rushing and receiving, plus 4 touchdowns (2 rush, 2 receiving). Look for the Sooners offense to have another big showing at home this week.

Now there has to be some concern about the play of the Sooners defense of late, as they have up more than 30 points for the 2nd straight week. The Wildcats had their success through the air throwing for 478 yards and 3 scores, but really shot themselves in the foot with 3 interceptions. The Sooners were tough against the run this week, holding the Wildcats to just 64 yards on the ground, and that means the Cornhuskers better plan on airing it out if they want a shot in this one.
