South Carolina vs. Florida Football Betting Odds & Spread

Written November 12, 2008 by Jason Lowry

There is no explanation needed for college football fans, for the hype that surrounds a South Carolina Florida football game now a days, as Steve Spurrier tries to beat the school he dominated with for a number of years. The problem for Spurrier is the 2008 Florida Gators are for real, but not perfect, as they have shown they are capable of being beat at home against a mediocre football team. This is Florida’s final test before the annual Florida State game to end the season, and a win locks them in as the East division representative in the SEC Championship game. For South Carolina an upset win gives them a shot at winning 10 games this season, as they are 7-4 with one more game remaining in the regular season after this one. The oddsmakers are all Gators, as Florida comes in 21 point favorites over South Carolina at Bookmaker.com

The No.24 ranked South Carolina Gamecocks will have to have about everything go there way in this one, and if Mississippi can beat Florida at home, you have to think Spurrier has a legit shot in this one. Last week quarterback Chris Smelley really played well splitting snaps with Stephen Garcia, as Smelley led the way with 148 yards and 2 touchdown passes. while Garcia had just 71 yards and an interception. The running game anything special, as it totaled just a 132 on 34 carries, but did get touchdown runs from Garcia and Mike Davis. Smelley and Garcia have to play mistake free in this one, as its the only shot South Carolina stays in the game to where it has a shot in the 4th quarter.

The Gamecocks defense also has to keep Florida from getting a bunch of big plays, as they have to keep Tim Tebow and company from scoring at will. Last week the Gamecocks had some trouble stopping the Razorbacks, as they just couldn’t make the big stops to force field goals instead of giving up touchdowns. This team has to force the Gators into multiple field goal attempts, as its unlike the Gamecocks offense can keep up touchdown for touchdown. Bet South Carolina +21 at Bookmaker.com

The No. 4 Florida Gators have responded after that loss to Mississippi early in the season with 5 straight wins, that included big wins over LSU and Georgia. The Gators have such an array of talent on the offensive side of things, with Tebow leading the way, as he continues to put up ridiculous numbers as a college quarterback. Last week the Gators went into Vandy and walked away with an easy 42-14 win, where Tebow accounted for 5 of the 6 Florida touchdowns, as he ran two in, and threw for 3 more. The Gators also got a 1 yard run from the versatile Percy Harvin, who had 92 yards of total offense.

The Gators defense also came to play last week, as they held Vandy to just 264 yards, as they made sure there would be no upset. The Gators didn’t force a ton of turnovers, as they totaled just one on an interception of Mackenzi Adams. But this unit really played well, and make sure that Vandy got nothing going early, as the Commodores didn’t score their first touchdown till the 3rd quarter. Look for the Gators to like keep this one right around the spread, as it could easily go both ways. Bet Florida -21 at Bookmaker.com
