Sports Betting Preview: 12/24-12/25
Written December 24, 2008 by Jack Jones

There is not much going on Christmas Eve with only the Hawaii Bowl on the sports betting schedule. On Christmas the action is pretty light as well, but if you like NBA action then there will be five games on the board so for today’s preview we are going to give you a double dip and cover both days.
Hawaii Bowl:
Even though Notre Dame finished their season at just 6-6, they get to travel over the Pacific and take on Hawaii Wednesday night in the Hawaii Bowl. Kickoff will be at 8 PM EST and Irish fans are hoping their team can bounce back from their season ending beating to USC by a score of 38-3. The hosts didn’t fare a whole lot better this year with a 7-6 mark, plus they also lost their last regular season game heading into the bowl. That game saw the Warriors play the Big East champions in Cincinnati pretty tough, losing a close one 29-24. With the college football odds it seems the pundits are favoring Notre Dame. BetJamaica has the line is set at 2 with the total listed at 48.5.
Christmas NBA Action:
There are five games taking place in the NBA on Christmas day with the action getting started at 12:00 PM EST with New Orleans heading to Orlando. This should be an exciting game as the Hornets are coming on strong and are an exciting team to watch while the Magic have won five in a row and nine of their last 10. Some betting angles to look at show that Orlando is 18-9 ATS this year and has a 9-6 ATS mark on their home floor.
The next game on the slate takes place at 2:30 PM EST when the Spurs head to Phoenix to take on the Suns. Phoenix has disappointed this season at 16-11, but bettors have had even more reason to worry as the team is just 11-16 ATS.
The game that I’m most excited about takes place at 5 PM EST when the Celtics head to the Staples Center in Los Angeles to take on the Lakers. This rematch of the NBA Finals and possible preview of this year’s championship series showcases two teams off to great starts. The Lakers are 14-1 in their home building and the Celtics have been on an absolute dominate run to start the year.
Finally we have the Wizards visiting LeBron and the Cavs in Cleveland at 8 PM EST, following by Dallas traveling to Portland at 10:30 PM EST. The Wizards have disappointed this year but the Cavs are being talked about as one of the best in the league due to their great start. The Blazers and Mavs got their seasons off on the wrong foot but have turned things around lately.

NFL News:
There are nine teams still alive in both the NFC and AFC as we head into week 17. Tennessee and Pittsburgh have clinched first round byes in the AFC with the Titans getting to play in Nashville throughout the playoffs. The Colts will be in as a Wild Card team and Miami, Denver, and Baltimore are currently in, while New England, NY Jets, and San Diego need to do some work in order to make the post-season. On the NFC side you have the Giants as the top seed with Carolina, Arizona, and Atlanta all guaranteed spots. Minnesota and Tampa Bay are currently in while Dallas, Chicago, and Philadelphia are still in the running.
