Written December 30, 2008 by Jack Jones
It will be another exciting day for sports betting on Tuesday, December 30th with three bowl games on the schedule to go with plenty of basketball and hockey action. Let’s take a closer look. Bowl Action The early game on the slate is the Humanitarian Bowl kicking off at 4:30 PM EST. Nevada is currently a 1.5-point favorite over Maryland as the Wolfpack come into this game 7-5 overall and having won three of their last four games. Their one loss during that stretch was a 41-34 battle against Boise State. The Terrapins are also 7-5 on the year, but have lost three of their last four games, including a 28-21 defeat to Boston College to close out the regular season. The Texas Bowl hasn’t gotten a lot of action since it features two smaller schools in Western Michigan and Rice. The Owls are currently favored by 2.5 points after having won their last six games to get to 9-3. This team can score a lot of points, reaching the 35 point mark in each of their last six games. The Broncos shouldn’t be overlooked though as they also come into this game at 9-3, but were beaten up pretty badly, 45-22, against Boise State in their last outing. The last game on the college football schedule sees Oregon taking on Oklahoma State at 8 PM EST in the 2008 Holiday Bowl. Both of these teams are ranked and have 9-3 records, but Oklahoma State is listed as a 3-point favorite even though they were pounded 61-41 by Oklahoma in their season finale. Oregon is coming off an easy 65-38 win over Oregon State and the Ducks are riding a three game winning streak. NHL The Chicago Blackhawks take on the Detroit Red Wings in the Motor City on Tuesday. Chicago comes into this contest at 20-6-7 on the season but they are still sitting behind Detroit, who are 23-7-5, in the Central Division standings. There are seven more games on ice with the Bruins and the Penguins squaring off in Pittsburgh along with Washington at Buffalo, Montreal at Tampa Bay, Atlanta at Toronto, New Jersey at St. Louis, Ottawa at Edmonton, and Philadelphia at Vancouver. NBA The defending champs are back in action tonight as the Boston Celtics head to Portland to face the Blazers. The Celtics lost two straight games before dismantling the Kings, 108-63, on Sunday night in Sacramento. In other NBA action, Atlanta visits Indiana, New York is in Charlotte, Cleveland heads to Miami, Washington is at New Orleans, Phoenix plays in Memphis, Minnesota travels to Dallas, Milwaukee will be in San Antonio, and the Kings play host to the L.A. Clippers. College Basketball There are seven ranked teams that will see floor time on Tuesday, led by No. 4 Oklahoma vs. Arkansas and No. 6 Wake Forest vs. Radford. The No. 9 Purdue Boilermakers take on Illinois, No. 13 Syracuse plays Seton Hall, and No. 20 Clemson battles South Carolina.
