2009 St. Louis Rams Schedule

Written May 28, 2009 by InfoPlays

st-louis-rams-schedule-2009The Rams have been spiraling downward for a few seasons now, capped off with a 2-14 campaign in 2008.  St. Louis lost 4 straight to start the season last year, which called for a coaching change.  Things looked bright with back-to-back wins over the Redskins and Cowboys under interim head coach Jim Haslett, but St. Louis got back to reality and lost 10 straight games to end the season.  It would be tough not to improve on last year’s woes, and the odds makers feel the same way having projected the Rams to win 5 games in 2009.  Now we’ll take a look at their upcoming wins and losses to see if these 5 wins can be reached, or exceeded.  Check the NFL projected win totals for every team.  Also, if you are going to do any NFL betting this season, then make sure you check out the $500 match bonus that BetUS offers our readers!

The Rams head all the way out east to start the pre-season with an August 14th meeting at the New York Jets.  St. Louis gets their first taste of the artificial turf at home against the Atlanta Falcons on August 21st.  Six days later they travel to Cincinnati on August 27th to face the Bengals.  One last tune-up for the regular season will see the Rams hosting the Kansas City Chiefs on September 3rd.  Check out StubHub for tickets to St. Louis Rams games in 2009.

Week 1 - Sunday, September 13th at the Seattle Seahawks – The rebuilding starts with a tough divisional road game at Seattle.  The Rams will not fare well here in a blowout loss.

Week 2 - Sunday, September 20th at the Washington Redskins – The Redskins are much better off than the Rams this season and will not drop an early home game.  Washington rolls.

Week 3 – Sunday, September 27th at home against the Green Bay Packers – This will be the Rams’ most competitive game of the season, but Green Bay will squeak out a close one.

Week 4 - Sunday, October 4th at the San Francisco 49ers – San Francisco is on a mission this season to return to the playoffs, and they aren’t about to let the Rams spoil their party in Week 4.

Week 5 - Sunday, October 11th at home against the Minnesota Vikings – Another close loss for St. Louis in Week 5 will have them very frustrated.  But the Vikings prevail in a close one.

Week 6 - Sunday, October 18th at the Jacksonville Jaguars – The losing continues in Jacksonville as the Jaguars put up a big number on the helpless Rams.

Week 7 - Sunday, October 25th at home against the Indianapolis Colts – Perhaps a much closer game than the odds makers predict, but you cannot be against Peyton Manning and company in a dome.

Week 8 - Sunday, November 1st at the Detroit Lions – A battle between the two worst teams in the league results in a win for the Detroit Lions at home.

Week 10 – Sunday, November 15th at home against the New Orleans Saints – Going 0-9 to start the season was not what the Rams had hoped for at all, but that’s what happens when they lose to the Saints here.

Week 11 - Sunday, November 22nd at home against the Arizona Cardinals – St. Louis loses a close one to the Arizona Cardinals here.

Week 12 - Sunday, November 29th at home against the Seattle Seahawks – Finally, a very winnable game for the Rams and they do not squander this opportunity.  St. Louis pulls it out at home.

Week 13 – Sunday, December 6th at the Chicago Bears – The Bears take care of business at Soldier Field behind the right arm of Jay Cutler.

Week 14 - Sunday, December 13th at the Tennessee Titans – This game has all the makings of a lopsided victory by the Titans at home.

Week 15 - Sunday, December 20th at home against the Houston Texans – The Rams earn their 2nd win of the season at home against the Texans, a team that makes too many mistakes to win on the road this late in the year.

Week 16 - Sunday, December 27th at the Arizona Cardinals – Arizona puts up a big number on this Rams’ defense in a game the Cardinals will need to make the playoffs.

Week 17 - Sunday, January 3rd at home against the San Francisco 49ers -  The 49ers may be eliminated from the playoffs at this point, and if they are there’s no doubt the Rams take this one at home.  Either way, I’ll side with the home team.

By my calculations, I have the Rams going 3-13 this season which is a slight improvement on their 2-14 record from a year ago.  Still, not the result Rams’ fans are hoping for.  Chances are they’ll sneak out another win along the way as an underdog and earn 4 wins, but there’s now way I can see St. Louis winning 5 games with the schedule presented.  So I’ll be betting the UNDER 5 wins for St. Louis in 2009.
