Steelers Sign Veteran Joey Galloway
Written December 23, 2009 by Jason Lowry
The Pittsburgh Steelers are making a late season move to try and help the team get back to the playoffs.ESPN is reporting that veteran wideout Joey Galloway has been added to the roster to make up for the loss of the youngster Limas Sweed. It really isn’t clear why Sweed is not going to be able to go, as the team is reporting nothing more than it is a non-football-related illness.
Galloway was cut earlier this season by the New England Patriots, after struggling to find his place with Tom Brady and company. Its hard saying what kind of impact you can expect from Galloway at this point, as the receiver hasn’t caught a TD since 2007. On the other hand, if Galloway can come in and make a couple big plays here and there to help this team win, it could go a long way in this team getting back to the playoffs to defend their Super Bowl title.
In the end its unlikely that this move will sway the NFL odds much, as its hard to imagine that the 38-year-old has that much to contribute. Still the signing means that Pittsburgh sees something in this guy, and with the way Ben Roethlisberger is throwing the ball, it just might work.
