Steelers vs. Eagles Predictions
Written September 17, 2008 by Jason Lowry
Sunday Sept. 21, Two NFL powers will lock up when the Pittsburgh Steelers travel to Philly to take on the Philadelphia Eagles. Last week the Steelers were able to win a tough one in Cleveland to push their record to 2-0, while the Eagles played in one of the best Monday Night Football games ever seen, as they lost a shoot out with the Cowboys 41-37 to push their record to 1-1.

The Steelers offense didn’t really come out firing as they did in week 1, as they faced some tough weather conditions in their game vs. the Brown. So though they only put up 10 points, there is a good chance that number could go up this weekend. Ben Roethlisberger threw for 186 yards including a 11 yard strike to Hines Ward in the first quarter. But that was about all this offense could do, as they were only able to tack on a 3rd quarter field goal the rest of the game. Running back Willie Parker was at it again running for 105 yards on 28 carries. The Eagles defense showed it had some holes, and it will be up to the Steelers to learn from the Cowboys and execute those same moves.
The Steelers defense was tough as nails shutting down their rival Browns offense, as they allowed the them just 155 yards through the air and just 53 total yards on the ground. Troy Polamalu continued to impress, as he grabbed his 2nd pick in just his 2nd game. Bryant McFadden also joined in the fun stealing one of Anderson’s passes as well. Defense end Aaron Smith made sure the line got in on the action, as he led the way with 2 sacks. This unit will definitely be tested this week against what looks like a very good Eagles offense. The reason that Eagles offense is looking so good, is quarterback Donovan McNabb looks like he is finally healthy and back to the form that landed the Eagles in the Super Bowl. McNabb was 25 of 37 throwing for 281 yards and he should of had 2 touchdowns had rookie receiver DeSean Jackson not made a bone-head play on a long touchdown pass. Even though Jackson did screw up by fumbling the ball before he got in the endzone, he did lead the way with 110 yards receiving. Besides McNabb running back Brian Westbrook is the key to this offense and he didn’t disappoint running for 58 yards and 2 scores and hauling in 6 catches for 45 yards and another score. The offense faces another tough defense this week in the Steelers, and it will be interesting to see if there is any let down after the show they put on last week.
The Eagles offense was solid in week 1 against the lowly Rams, but they really couldn’t do much to stop the Cowboys besides two straight possessions where they first picked off Romo, and then recovered a Romo fumble for a touchdown on the first play of the Cowboys next series. Other than that the Romo threw for 312 yards and 3 scores, and beat the Eagles deep repeatedly. The Eagles were solid against the run allowing the Cowboys to just run for 68 yards, so it will be up to this unit to pick it up this week, and show that last week wasn’t a sign of what is to come on this side of the ball against the pass.
