Super Bowl 44 Betting Odds

Written February 2, 2010 by Jack Jones

The stage for Super Bowl 44 has been set with the Indianapolis Colts representing the AFC and the New Orleans Saints representing the NFC.  Game time is set for 6:25 PM ET in Miami Florida at Sun Life Stadium.  Television coverage is to be provided by CBS.  As the most bet on single event of any sport, it’s important to know what your options are.

The most common bet for the super bowl is against the point spread.  Currently the Super Bowl odds show the Indianapolis Colts favored by 5 points over the Saints.  This simply means if you wager on the Colts against the spread, they have to win the game by 6 or more points to cover that spread.  A wager on the New Orleans would mean if the Saints win the game, or keep it within 4 points, they have covered the spread.  If the game were to end with the Colts winning by exactly 5 points based on the current odds, that would be a push, meaning you would simply get your money back.

You can also bet on the straight up winner for the game.  This is called the moneyline.  You can bet on the Colts at -210 or the Saints at +170.  This means you would need to place a wager of $210 on the Colts to win $100.  A $100 wager on the Saints would pay $170 if they were to win outright.

The other common option for Super Bowl betting is the total or “over/under”.  This is simply a bet on how many total points you think will be scored in the game.  For Super Bowl 44 the total has been set at 56.5 points.  If you think the final score will be add up to more than that, you would take the “Over”, less than 56.5 and you would want to bet the “Under”.

Those are the most common types of bets for the Super Bowl.  If you would like some expert advice on wagering for this game, our handicappers provide Super Bowl picks specializing in these types of wagers.
