Super Bowl Line Moves
It seems like the odds makers overshot their target when they set the opening number for this year’s Super Bowl. As soon as the conference championship games had ended New England was listed as a two touchdown favorite over the New York Giants. People who liked the Giants threw down a lot of money early and the odds quickly went down trying to attract action on the Patriots. That shouldn’t be a problem since the general public seemed to ride the Pats all season long and did well early in the season.
You don’t see too many lines in the NFL move by a field goal and the last place the sportsbooks want to see that happen is on the Super Bowl, which is the game that they are goign to get more action on than any other all year long.
The books are really going to be rooting for New England or else there could be some losses on this game if the Giants cover the number.
Even though the line has dropped to 11.5, many out there still think it’s sitting too high considering how these two teams matched up in Week 17, when the Giants had the game all but one before Tom Brady led the Pats to yet another comeback victory.
We wouldn’t be surprised to see this number drop more before the opening kickoff, so we are recommending everyone who wants to bet on New York do so now, while if you are looking to jump on New England’s ship then wait until closer to kickoff.
The thing about the Super Bowl is that the odds makers really want to have balanced action on this game. The amount that they normally stand to win in juice alone is pretty incredible, so they don’t need to play favorites and beat the general public to a pulp. Normally the dogs show a little bit of value since 60% of the bettors like taking favorites and almost refuse to take points.
If you want to know who we like in the big game, we are leaning towards the Patriots but are still going over some of the matchups before we place our wager. As the game approaches check back for more updates and jump in on our daily basketball predictions.
