Super Bowl Odds: Ben Roethlisberger Props

Written January 28, 2009 by Jason Lowry

ben roethlisberger

Betting on the Super Bowl is something so many love to do, but there is much more to bet on besides just the game itself. Today we are going to look at the prop bets for Steelers Quarterback Ben Roethlisberger. Big Ben finished the regular season completing 59.9% of his passes, while throwing for 3,301 yards with 17 touchdowns to 15 interceptions. Roethlisberger can run when needed, as he ran for 101 yards and 2 scores this past season. In two playoff games Roethlisberger has seen his completions percentage drop to around 56%, but has thrown for 436 yards with 2 scores and 0 interceptions. Roethlisberger has a lot to prove after his very disappointing performance back in 2006, where he completed just 9 of 21 passes for 123 yards with no touchdowns and two interceptions in a Steelers win. So for those of you looking to do some NFL betting on Roethlisberger’s stats this Super Bowl, here are the best props bets thanks to Sportsbook.com.

Total Passing Yards: Over 235.5 (-115) Under 235.5 (-115)

This is right on the edge of where we think Roethlisberger will be at the end of the game, so this was not an easy call, but we think with the way the Steelers can run the football he won’t have to pass that much in this one. We are thinking Roethlisberger winds up with about 210 yards in this one.

Total Completions: Over 17.5 (-115) Under 17.5 (-105)

Again we are going to go against Roethlisberger putting up huge numbers in the passing game in this one. And even if he does throw for a bunch of yards, its more likely they will come on big plays rather than a bunch of little dump passes. I look for about 12-15 completions for Roethlisberger,

Total Pass Attempts: Over 30.5 (-120) Under 30.5 (Even)

If the Steelers are going to win this game, you would think the Steelers are going win with great defense and a strong running game, not Roethlisberger chucking up all game long. Ben will get his shots to make some plays, but unless the Steelers fall behind big early, he won’t go over the 30 attempt mark.

Longest Completion: Over 37.5 (-115) Under 37.5 (-115)

This prop bet is a little more tricky, as it is not only Roethlisberger that has control over this one, as he could throw a 5 yard dump pass that Willie Parker, Hines Ward, or Santonio Holmes takes for 50 yards, and for that reason we like the Over 37.5.

Total Touchdown Passes: Over 1.5 (-155) Under 1.5 (+125)

This is tough one to call, but we are going to stick to our theme that the Steelers are going to win this with their running game, and by doing so we think they will pound it on the ground in the red zone, leaving very few chances for Roethlisberger to throw a TD pass. We like the under 1.5 in this one.

What Will He Throw First: TD Pass (-180) Interception (+140)

Again we think the Steelers are going to score with the run, and the Cardinals have been all over opposing quarterbacks this postseason, grabbing 8 interceptions including 5 against Jake Delhomme and the Panthers when they failed to run the football and got way behind early. Look for Roethlisberger to make a mistake before he makes a big play in this one.

What Will He Throw First: Completion (-200) Incompletion/INT (+160)

This might not seem as easy as the odds might imply, as you never know if the Steelers are going to try and attack with the deep ball early, or go for that sure thing on a play they know they can get a good look at a solid gain. We like the sure thing, and we are banking the fact that the Steelers do to.

Will He Throw an Interception: Yes (-145) No (+115)

We have already mentioned how well the Cardinals secondary has been playing this season, and its hard to imagine they don’t get at least one big play from this unit as they have came up huge in all 3 playoff games. Look for Ben to make at least one mistake.
