Super Bowl Winners & Losers

Written by

Each year fans gather together to watch the best from the NFC battle the best from the AFC. The NFL playoffs draw some of the biggest fan bases and TV audiences of today. While each playoff game is exciting and fun for almost every fan of the game. The Super Bowl is the best of them all. Fans from every team all over the league gather together for this one special game. Fans spend all season hoping to have a chance of seeing their team make the historic run to the Super Bowl, and only dream that their team wins the game. While fans of some teams have been spoiled with multiple victories, others have had to suffer through gut wrenching losses, and few have never even had the chance of seeing their team play.

This year’s game matches the New England Patriots against the New York Giants.  According to the latest Super Bowl odds the Patriots are favored by 3 points in the game.

The first Super Bowl was won by the Green Bay Packers in 1967, and the most recent by the Green Bay Packers last year. This year the New England Patriots will face the New York Giants in Super Bowl XLVI.  The NFC holds the overall edge by a slim margin – winning twenty-four times to the AFC’s twenty-two.

While each conference has had its shares of ups and downs, both conferences have led by seven games over the other at some point in history. Though the NFC won the first two, by Super Bowl XV the AFC held the edge of seven games over the NFC. Things quickly turned though as the NFC went on a tear winning fifteen out of the next 16, before the Denver Broncos won back-to-back titles in the late 1990’s. During that stretch the NFC won thirteen straight times, with multiple victories coming from the Dallas Cowboys, San Francisco 49ers, New York Giants, and the Washington Redskins. The 49ers won a total of four during that stretch while the Cowboys were close behind with three. The AFC longest winning streak is five games, and they are currently on a 4 game winning streak heading into this year’s game.

There have been four teams to go to the Super Bowl and never lose. The 49ers are an incredible 5-0, while the Baltimore Ravens, New York Jets, and Tampa Bay Buccaneers have gone once and came out victorious.

On the flip side, nine teams have came up shorthanded each time they have reached the Super Bowl. The two most noticeable are the Minnesota Vikings and the Buffalo Bills. Bills fans were heart broken a devastating four-straight years, as they were unable to finish the job.

Fans of the Cowboys have been able to watch their team play a total of eight times in the big game.  Super Bowl XLV will mark the 8th appearance in the big game for the Pittsburgh Steelers as well.  Behind them at six are the Broncos, and Patriots. There have been four teams that have never made it to play on Super Bowl Sunday. The Cleveland Browns, Houston Texans, Jacksonville Jaguars, and the Detroit Lions.

I think you need to check your stats again, you have Steelers at six times going to the big game. Last time I checked this superbowl coming up will be Steelers 8th in a superbowl. In seven and winning six so far. So I counting them as a tie with Dallas and not them following with only six appearances as you have them.
