Super Bowl XLIII Betting Trends
Written January 30, 2009 by Jack Jones
Gameday is fast approaching and it’s time to start getting serious about who you are going to take on Sunday. Most sportsbooks opened up with the line at -6.5 for the Steelers, but quickly moved it to -7 as the early money was all Pittsburgh. The Super Bowl betting lines will probably be holding steady at this point, so a touchdown is what you are getting with Arizona or laying with Pittsburgh.
The Over/Under opened up at 47.5 and was pushed down to 47 by strong money on the Under. Both the side and the total are now on key numbers so don’t expect to see either move, but you will possibly see some changes in the juice you have to lay instead of the standard -110.
SportsBetting.com is seeing some balanced action on the money line as well, with Pitt backers laying -245 and those taking the Cardinals getting +205 on their money.
It seems like analysts and commentators on both radio and TV are heavily on the Steelers, and the Cardinals organization is feeling like they are getting no respect. The Cards have been pretty respected by bettors though since they are 12-7 ATS overall and 3-0 ATS in the playoffs.
Let’s take a look at some Super Bowl betting trends that could help you find an edge in this year’s game.
The Cardinals are 10-9 ATS as an underdog of 8 points or less, but have gone OVER in 16 of their last 20 in this spot. In Arizona’s last 20 games on grass they are 15-5 for the OVER.
Pittsburgh has covered in 11 of their 18 games this year, including both playoff games. As favorites of 8 points or more they are just 9-11 ATS. Nearly 65% of SportsBetting.com bettors are taking the Steelers at -7 and the linesmakers aren’t expecting anything to change as we head to game time.
The betting majority is also siding with the over with 60% of the action coming in on that side of the total.
