Super Bowl XLIII Prop Bets
Written January 30, 2009 by Jack Jones
It has been estimated that nearly $100 million will be wagered in Las Vegas on Super Bowl XLIII and nearly 1/3 of that money will be placed on prop bets. Even though during the regular season there is hardly any action on the props, the Super Bowl is known for it’s crazy bets and how you can have action on almost anything to do with the game, and sometimes even things that have nothing to do with the game. Without further delay, here are some of the prop bets I will be taking on Super Bowl XLIII.
Cardinals to Receive the Opening Kick
The Steelers have kicked off every game this year when they won the coin toss and it’s pretty easy to see why. They have the best defense in the league and like to get those hard hitters out on the field early to establish the feel of the game. The Cardinals on the other hand want to do the same thing, so if they win the toss they’ll send Kurt Warner and company out on the field to see if they can get the scoring started early. This one is a BEST BET when it comes to this year’s props.
Edgerrin James Total Rushing Yards: UNDER 42.5
James has looked good in the playoffs, racking up 73, 57, and 73 yards in the games so far, but the Cardinals have been getting out in front of their opponents. That isn’t expected to be the case here, and even if it is you can’t expect James to get going when taking on a Steelers defense that is so good against the run. You won’t see Pittsburgh missing any tackles against James like the Eagles did in the NFC Championship game. The Steelers held San Diego to 15 rushing yards, and I expect the Cardinals to end up with close to the same total.
Heath Miller OVER 3.5 Receptions
The Pittsburgh receivers are banged up and the Cardinals will be keying in on them anyway, but Ben Roethlisberger knows that he can depend on his faithful tight end, Heath Miller. With his first options covered, I see Roethlisberger going Miller’s way often on Sunday.
Anquan Boldin OVER 64 Receiving Yards
A lot has been made about how unhappy Boldin is with the Cardinals, but don’t translate that into him not being used in this game. On the contrary, the Cardinals are going to have to open up the passing game if they want to move the ball against the Steelers. Larry Fitzgerald has been receiving a lot of attention lately and will get the best cover man the Steelers have in Ike Taylor. Boldin has been hurt, but he put up some hefty numbers this season when healthy. The extra week off should have him back at full strength, and he’ll be too tough of a matchup for Bryant McFadden.
