Sweet 16 Picks

Written March 27, 2009 by Jordan Haimowitz

sweet-16-picks-032709Another successful day by the books. We started off firing on all cylinders with the two unders coming through (what a scare we got at the end of the Uconn/Purdue game). Pittsburgh/Xavier UNDER 138.5 and Uconn/Purdue UNDER 134 were a great success. I have been on the Mizzu Bandwagon since I had them as my lock of the week against Baylor in the Big-12 championship game. Missouri +4.5, great play, we are now 3-0. Then we had a little bump in the road with the Wildcats running Duke ragged. That one surprised me a bit. Not so much that Nova won, but how they rattled Duke. However, a 3-1 day is still a profit in our pockets. Here are the four Sweet Sixteen winners of the day. The South Region will include a full article by breakdown. Any comments and opinions post away.

Record To Date:

17-14 OVERALL
6-4 BEST BET

(BEST BET) Oklahoma -1: The Cuse are well balanced with an explosive scoring offense and have the nations best point guard. Oklahoma has the speed and power to take this Big East squad down. Blake Griffin, a prolific scorer, is also a fabulous passer out of the post.. Look for Crocker, Johnson and Warren to hit shots and move on.

Gonzaga +8.5: This is Coach Few’s best team since he has been running the Gonzaga sidelines. They have the athleticism to play with UNC and if the Heels do not come out with intensity losing this game is a very real possibility. I do see Hansbrough and Lawson coming through in the end but it will be very close.

Louisville/Arizona OVER 139.5: Both of these teams shoot well out of transition. They have deadly shooters. Between Chase Buddinger, Jamelle Horne, Zane Johnson of Arizona and Jerry Smith, Edgar Sosa, Andre Mcgee and Terrence Williams on Louisville the scoring should be rather high. They each have two dominating big men in Jordan Hill and Samardo Samuels. Final Score 79-70

Kansas/Michigan State UNDER 138.5: An experienced team in Michigan State will slow this game to a pace of their liking. Kansas who can run and gun, has proved that they can win in a half court set as their star F/C Cole Aldrich is playing at a very high level. Expect a physical grind it out game. A ton of contested shots and a strong focus on defense will keep it below the margin. I do think Kansas will win but the UNDER seems safer to me.

We had a good night yesterday, lets keep the winning going.
