Syracuse vs Penn State Odds
Written by InfoPlays
The Penn State Nittany Lions host the Syracuse Orangemen on Saturday, September 12th in Week 2 college football. The Nittany Lions will be aiming for their 10th straight home victory. Penn State got off to a fast start last week in beating Akron 31-7 at home. They didn’t allow a single first down until the end of the third quarter, and held the Zips to 186 yards of total offense for the game. Syracuse comes off a heartbreaking 20-23 overtime loss to Minnesota after failing to score a single point in the second half. NCAA football odds have listed Penn State -28.5 over Minnesota with a total set of 52 points.
Paterno was not happy with how his kids performed in the second half, getting outscored 7-0 by Akron last Saturday. “We had a terrible second half,” Paterno said. “We got soft. We thought the game was over. We weren’t very sharp. There are a lot of young kids and they thought the thing was over at halftime. We just did not have any consistency in the second half. I was disappointed with the second half, but we still won the football game.” QB Daryll came into Saturday as one of the favorites to win the Big Ten’s Offensive Player of the Year award, and he didn’t disappoint. Clark threw for 353 yards, including a school-record 254 in the first half. His three touchdowns passes earned him conference player of the week honors. Penn State’s 9-game home winning streak has seen the Lions win by an average of 29 points, so you can see the oddsmakers have taken note of that. The Nittany Lions have now won 22 straight home games against unranked opponents, which included a 55-13 win over Syracuse in September of 2008.
Syracuse had every chance to win last week against Minnesota, but they couldn’t capitalize. This team somehow needs to find a way to turn the corner and win when they get the chance. QB Greg Paulus is a great story, coming over to the Orangemen to play football after serving as the point guard on Duke’s basketball team. But perhaps the biggest mistake made by Syracuse last Saturday was in overtime when Paulus threw his only interception of the game down near the goal line. It allowed Minnesota to simply settle for a field goal for the win. Paulus completed 19-of-31 passes for 167 yards and a touchdown in his first ever collegiate start, which was better than most expected he would do. The Orangemen were at a disadvantage when 19 scholarship players quit the team when new head coach Doug Marrone took over. But this team showed a lot of heart last week, unfortunately it’s likely they’ll get their hearts torn out this weekend at Penn State.
Got something to say?
