Odds to Win the 2010 World Series - October 5, 2010

The postseason is finally here, and now it’s time to preview each team that has a chance to win the World Series. I’ll list the MLB odds on every team to win it all, while also giving you some insight to every clubhouse. Philadelphia Phillies: (+225) – A $100 wager would profit you $225 if the Phillies were to win it all. This team is the favorite to take down their second World Series title in the past three years. That’s because they went out and loaded their pitching staff by trading...

2010 Oakland Raiders Predictions - July 14, 2010

It’s hard to imagine that the Raiders won three straight division titles from 2000 to 2002, as they haven’t topped the five win mark since making the playoffs in 2002. That was the win total for the Raiders in 2009, as they went 5-11 for the second straight season, but their is hope that this organization will turn things around. The biggest move the Raiders made this offseason was letting go of former No.1 overall pick JaMarcus Russell, who had a miserable run at quarterback in Oakland....

2010 MLB Season Preview & Predictions - March 30, 2010

I have gone over a preview of every team in Major League Baseball, and now it’s time to do a recap of my predictions in the American and National leagues, along with the teams I feel will make the 2010 World Series. American League: AL East: Yankees Win & Red Sox Earn Wild Card – Looking at this powerful division, there are the Yankees, Red Sox and Rays who will all be fighting for their spots in the postseason. The Yankees and Red Sox have the proven veterans and are each certainly teams...

2010 Washington Nationals Predictions - March 25, 2010

Washington Nationals fans are awaiting the day when they won’t have to hear about what Scott Boras advisee the team is going to select with the first pick in the June draft every year. Washington finished 59-103 last year, the second straight season they finished with that record along with earning the top pick in the draft for a second straight year. Fans can be excited about Stephen Strasburg and his upper 90’s fastball to compliment a hammer curve. But they are likely to spend this summer...

2010 San Francisco Giants Predictions - March 24, 2010

The San Francisco Giants produced their first winning season since 2004, going 88-74 in 2009. But it just so happened to be a very tough year in the NL West, as both the Dodgers and Rockies finished with better records than San Francisco. That meant no postseason appearance, and it sure as heck wasn’t because of their pitching staff. Tim Lincecum won the NL Cy Young for a second straight season, and Matt Cain emerged on the scene as one of the best in the league last season. But their line-up let...

San Diego Padres Predictions 2010 - March 24, 2010

The San Diego Padres finished 75-87 last season and avoided the cellar of the NL West, which was an accomplishment in itself with what this team had heading into 2009. But they were outscored by 131 runs overall, and they traded away franchise icon Jake Peavy to the Chicago White Sox this offseason. Next in line could be first baseman Adrian Gonzalez because the Padres simply cannot match the kind of offer for him that other teams like the Yankees and Red Sox can. Their farm system has been putrid...

St. Louis Cardinals 2010 Predictions - March 24, 2010

The St. Louis Cardinals made all the right moves to win the NL Central last season, posting a 91-71 record before a quit exit in the first round of the postseason, losing to the Dodgers. They brought in Matt Holliday, Julio Lugo, Mark DeRosa and John Smoltz. It did cost the Cardinals five minor leaguers, but they went on to win 32 of their first 43 games with Holliday in the line-up. They also managed to get Holliday locked up long term by signing him to a seven-year, $120 million deal. He is the...

Pittsburgh Pirates 2010 Predictions - March 23, 2010

The Pittsburgh Pirates lost 99 games last season, marking their 17th consecutive losing season. It broke the Phillies’ record of sixteen straight losing seasons and it stands alone as the longer losing streak of the four major professional sports. It was their third straight year finishing in last place in the NL Central, the 10th time they’ve done that during this streak. Pittsburgh is notorious for trading away their best players, ala Jason Bay, Nate McClouth, Jack Wilson, Xavier Nady and Freddy...

2010 Philadelphia Phillies Predictions - March 23, 2010

The Philadelphia Phillies proved they are here to stay last season. They traded for Cliff Lee before the deadline, and went on to make the World Series for a second straight year after getting though the Rockies and Dodgers with ease. Though it wasn’t the same championship finish as it was in 2008, they still gave the Yankees all they could handle, eventually losing in six games. It was the Phillies’ third straight NL East crown, and they certainly made their case as one of the best teams in...

New York Mets Predictions 2010 - March 23, 2010

The New York Mets entered the 2009 season with thoughts of winning a world series. They had just signed Francisco Rodriquez to shore up the bullpen, and they had the likes of Carlos Beltran, David Wright, Carlos Delgado and Jose Reyes to carry the offensive load. But Beltran, Delgado and Reyes all missed the majority of the season due to injury, and Wright could not carry the load by himself. The Mets ranked 25th in the majors in runs scored last season. Johan Santana had been pitching great before...

Milwaukee Brewers 2010 Predictions - March 23, 2010

It’s the same-old, same-old for the Milwaukee Brewers. They have one of the most potent line-ups in baseball, but they cannot win consistently due to a shaky pitching staff. The combo of Prince Fielder and Ryan Bruan have each hit 30-plus home runs for three straight seasons, and they combined to drive in 255 runs last year. Fielder’s 141 RBI’s last season led the NL, and broke the club record held by Cecil Cooper. Braun was the only NL batter to record more than 200 hits. But the Brewers’...

Los Angeles Dodgers 2010 Predictions - March 23, 2010

The L.A. Dodgers led the National League with 95 wins last season, and they made it to the NLCS for a second straight year. This is one of the most proud franchises in the big leagues, and they sold more tickets than another other team last season. With ownership in limbo, general manager Ned Colletti wasn’t allowed to spend money over the winter to improve their team. He wasn’t able to offer arbitration to Randy Wolf and Orlando Husdon, and as a result they lost out on a couple draft picks as...

Houston Astros 2010 Predictions - March 22, 2010

Houston Astros GM Ed Wade decided on hiring Brad Mills to be his manager for the 2010 season despite the fact that he lacked the experience that other candidates had to offer. But he has been a part of the Red Sox organization the past six years, serving as their bench coach, so he’s seen what it takes to get the job done in October. He owns two World Series rings, learning from Terry Francona, one of the best in the business. The Astros had the oldest roster in baseball last year, and after getting...

2010 Florida Marlins Predictions - March 22, 2010

The Florida Marlins are the perfect example of how to win games on a tight budget. Others like the Twins and A’s have tried to model it, and they’ve done respectable jobs, but none have quite produced like the Marlins have. They won the World Series in 2003, and since owner Jeffrey Loria took over the franchise in 2002, they have gone 656-639 with an average payroll of $37.2 million. Compare that to the New York Mets, who are 639-655 with an average payroll of $114.1 million during that same...

2010 Colorado Rockies MLB Predictions - March 15, 2010

The Colorado Rockies have certainly made things interesting the last few years in the second half. After going 18-28 into May last season, manager Clint Hurdle was fired. When Jim Tracy took over, they proceeded to win 13 of their next 17 games. They managed their way to a 92-70 record, earning the Wild Card after nearly catching the Dodgers for first place in the NL West. Tracy went on to unanimously take down NL Manager of the Year honors. The Rockies’ 33-39 record in division play last year...

2010 Cincinnati Reds Predictions - March 14, 2010

The main goal for most teams in the league is to find young, talented players that produce more than what they are getting paid for. The Reds have plenty of those kind of players, a la Joey Votto, Jay Bruce and Brandon Phillips. They also have a young nucleus of starting pitchers with plenty of talent at small-market prices in Homer Bailey, Aroldis Chapman and Johnny Cueto. Now it’s up to manager Dusty Baker to get this young nucleus of players to stay healthy and turn this production into more...

Chicago Cubs 2010 MLB Predictions - March 14, 2010

On a bright note, the Chicago Cubs did finish with a winning record for a third straight season last year, going 83-78. It was the first time a Cubs’ team has done that since the early 1970’s. But the curse is still there, and it has now been more than 100 years since this team has won a World Series. Chicago had several big names suffer dips in production last year. The Cubs scored 148 less runs in 2009 than they did the previous season, and Milton Bradley was a big reason why. He got a three-year...

2010 Atlanta Braves MLB Predictions - March 14, 2010

The Atlanta Braves have produced winning teams in 17 of the past 19 seasons. They had been to 14 straight postseasons, but have failed to reach baseball in October the past four years. Atlanta went 86-76 for the 2009 season, but a lack of run support for a pitching staff that ranked third in the majors with a 3.57 ERA kept them out of the postseason. Manager Bobby Cox, 68, has announced that 2010 will be his last season as a head man in the league. So the Braves don’t need any more motivation than...

2010 Arizona Diamondbacks Predictions - March 12, 2010

The Arizona Diamondbacks went into the 2009 season with high hopes, but those hopes were wrecked when Brandon Webb went off the mound on Opening Day. The former Cy Young winner needed surgery to repair his right shoulder, and he didn’t pitch again the rest of the season. Bob Melvin was fired as manager after their 12-17 start, and GM Josh Byrnes replaced him with farm director A.J. Hinich. This was a very controversial move because Hinich hadn’t been a head coach on any level. The Diamondbacks...

Toronto Blue Jays 2010 Predictions - March 12, 2010

The Toronto Blue Jays started last season 27-14, owning the best record in the majors and leading the AL East by 3 ½ games. But injuries along their starting rotation, along with the meat of the AL East schedule still to go, the Blue Jays struggled the rest of the way and finished with a 75-87 record, 28 games behind the Yankees. After a month of trying to shop Halladay, GM J.P. Ricciardi was fired. When 32-year-old Alex Anthopoulos stepped in as new GM, he decided that trading Halladay to the Phillies...

2010 Texas Rangers Predictions - March 11, 2010

Nolan Ryan made his impact last season, making the Rangers a pitching-first team in his second year on the job as club president. Texas led the AL in shutouts with 11, and their 4.38 ERA as a staff ranked above average. As a result, the Rangers finished with their first winning season since 2004, going 87-75. Texas didn’t make the playoffs in the last decade, but they are set up to make a run at the postseason for years to come. For a team that had been known for their offense over the past decade,...

2010 Predictions: Tampa Bay Rays - March 11, 2010

The Tampa Bay Rays went 84-78 last year for their second straight winning season, and in year’s past that would have been a successful campaign. But after winning 97 games in 2008 and going to the World Series, it was actually considered a bit of a disappointment. Nevertheless, this team is finally competitive after so many years in the dumps of the AL East. Their 84 wins last year were the second-most in franchise history, and the Rays sent five players to the All-Star game. Carl Crawford and...

Seattle Mariners 2010 Predictions - March 10, 2010

The Seattle Mariners were right in the thick of the AL West race last season, and finished with a respectable 85-77 record. Their pitching staff carried them the entire way, as their starters finished with a 3.89 ERA as a team, the best in the American League. But their lack of run production helped waste the efforts from their starters, as the Mariners scores the fewest runs in the majors at 3.95/game. Ichiro finished with 225 hits, but their impatient line-up as a whole resulted in a .314 team...

2010 Oakland Athletics Predictions - March 9, 2010

GM Billy Beane’s plans for rebuilding the Oakland Athletics are not working, and in 2009 they finished their third consecutive season with a sub-.500 record. The A’s finished last in the AL West, going 75-87, and also had the lowest average attendance in the majors at 17,392. Until this team can move from the old Coliseum to the Silicon Valley area, the attendance numbers aren’t likely to improve, especially with the dreadful moves that Beane keeps making. Oakland lacks power in their line-up,...

2010 Predictions: New York Yankees - March 9, 2010

The New York Yankees started the last decade with a Subway Series victory over the Mets for a championship, and they ended it with an exclamation point by beating the Phillies to win another World Series title in 2009. It was the franchise’s 27th championship, and the Yankees broke in the new $1.5 billion Yankee Stadium in style. In New York, it’s all about winning titles and that’s what they continue to do. It may cost a fortune in payroll, but it’s a winning formula that the Yankees aren’t...
