2011 Illinois Football Predictions - June 15, 2011

Illinois is entering the 2011 season with the hope they can reach back-to-back bowls for the first time in the Ron Zook era. Illinois rebounded last year after two straight disappointing seasons.  They have had plenty of coaching changes, including adding new coordinators on both sides of the ball. The Illini went 7-6 last season, including a bowl win over Baylor. Last season saw excellent performances out of rookie QB Nathan Scheelhaase and junior tailback Mikel Leshoure, along with a solid performance...

Week 3 College Football Predictions - September 18, 2010

This week we will continue with our introduction to the “Rocketman Line.”  This is the first time I’ve actually put all my Rocketman Line information out for public display.  What is the Rocketman line?  Glad you asked. I keep a running set of power ratings for each team in every sport.  These are updated each day at the completion of the games.  Since we’re talking college football, I’ll use CFB as an example.  I take my power ratings and compare the two teams who are facing each...

2010 South Carolina Football Predictions - July 13, 2010

Steve Spurrier hasn’t been able to accomplish at South Carolina what the Gamecocks were hoping when he started this journey five years ago. Spurrier is 35-28 here, and he’s coming off a 7-6 record which included a 3-5 mark in SEC play. This team should be very motivated in the offseason, especially coming off a 7-20 loss to Connecticut in the Papajohns.com Bowl. The good news is that there is a lot of returning experience with 17 starters back; 8 on offense, 7 on defense and their punter and...

2010 Clemson Football Predictions - July 9, 2010

Head coach Dabo Swinney led the Clemson Tigers to a 9-5 record last season, and a 6-2 record in ACC play, which was good for 1st place in the Atlantic Division. He’ll have his hands full getting this team back atop the Atlantic in 2010 because many key players have departed, led by RB C.J. Spiller who was their spark plug on offense and special teams. The Tigers are expected to finish in the middle of the pack this season as indicated by BetUS. This trusted sportsbook has listed Clemson at +700...

2010 Texas A&M Football Predictions - July 6, 2010

It has been a disappointing first two seasons for head coach Mike Sherman’s Texas A&M Aggies. The team is 10-15 under his guidance, and they just completed a 6-7 season after a 20-44 loss to Georgia in the Independence Bowl. But things are looking up this year with big-time players on both sides of the ball, and 15 starters back including their punter and kicker. Let’s see how this team fares below with our predictions, and you may also want to take a look at our overall 2010 Big 12 predictions...

2010 Georgia Football Predictions - July 1, 2010

The Georgia Bulldogs are coming off a down season in which they went 8-5, including 4-4 in SEC play. Head coach Mark Richt is not used to losing here, as he has posted a 90-27 record in his 9 years guiding the Bulldogs. Anything short of a 10-win season is considered a failure, and it won’t be easy for the Bulldogs to get back to the 10-win plateau this year. I give my predictions on this team below, but be sure to check out Jason Lowry’s 2010 SEC football predictions to find out how the East...

2010 Sun Belt Football Predictions - June 24, 2010

The Sun Belt is one of the more entertaining conferences in the country despite being one of the least-known. It’s filled with high-scoring games, as we saw with the 68-49 North Texas win over Western Kentucky. Little defense gets played, but it is very competitive nonetheless. Troy has owned this conference in recent years, winning back-to-back outright titles. But they lose a lot of talent, which opens the door for a few teams to sneak in and win it in 2010. Beat the college football odds this...

2010 WAC Football Predictions - June 21, 2010

Boise State is a legitimate national title contender this year coming out of the WAC with the national respect they have gained over the past several seasons. If they were to go undefeated and win their eighth WAC title in the past nine years, then they would be riding a 26-game winning streak. Not to mention, they’d have beaten Virginia Tech and Oregon State, two solid non-conference foes to boost their resume. If you want to bet against the NCAA football odds this season, then take your money...

Doc’s Sports wants to help you get started on the right foot with these tips for the 2009-10 college bowl season.  Doc is hitting at a solid 63% clip over his last 43 college football picks.  Be sure you think about these factors before you make a bet on any of the bowl games. Loyalty can be one of a gambler’s worst enemies. That’s why bettors should never – or at least rarely – wager on their favorite teams. They lose objectivity and are sometime blinded by their feelings about their...

College Football Odds: Florida State vs Wake Forest - November 13, 2009

Just when things looked like they couldn’t get any worse for Bobby Bowden and company, they do.   In a 40-24 loss to Clemson last week, the club turned the ball over 5 times!  Four of those came as interceptions from QB Christina Ponder, who’s out the rest of the year with a shoulder injury.  Florida State will be taking their 4-5 record to Wake Forest this Saturday at noon ET, and are the underdogs by 5 according to the college football spreads.  The Demon Deacons are 4-6 and...

Washington State at Notre Dame - October 30, 2009

Notre Dame, ranked 25th at 5-2, has been skating on thin ice as four of their five victories have come by an average of just over 4 points, and all were decided by late go-ahead td’s.  They’re hoping for a blowout this week in San Antonio as they take on lowly Washington State (1-6).  The college football odds makers have the Cougars labeled as 27 point underdogs with an over/under set at 61.  Game time is 7:30 pm ET this Saturday night.  Charlie Weis and company are looking...

Week 8 NCAA Football Predictions - October 23, 2009

The biggest game of the weekend is in the MWC. How often can you say that? #7 TCU has the very strong defense, but it will be at # 16 BYU and they are very tough to beat there. I think the scoring stays pretty low and TCU wins a nail biter. Prediction: TCU 21 BYU 17 #3 Texas will head to Missouri to take on the Tigers. Texas squeaked by last weekend against an injury riddled Oklahoma team, but the Longhorns have yet to look just right so far this season. Blaine Gabbert is still hobbled for the Tigers,...

The first big game of the weekend pits #21 Nebraska against Big 12 North foe #24 Missouri. Missouri has played better than expected, but Nebraska is back this year. Expect the Huskers defense to make it tough on the Tigers. Prediction: Nebraska 28 Missouri 21 #1 Florida travels to #4 LSU in the biggest game of the weekend. Tim Tebow may well be a game time decision, and that will certainly play a role in who the winner of this game is. The guess here is that Tebow plays at least some, and the Gators...

Football Predictions: Nebraska at Missouri - October 8, 2009

Nebraska opens up conference play this Thursday night against undefeated Missouri in what is sure to be an indicator for the Big 12 North championship. The Cornhuskers could easily be 4-0, but lost a heartbreaker 3 weeks ago when now #5 Virginia Tech scored in the last 21 seconds of the game. Last year, Missouri handed the Big Red a 52-17 defeat in Memorial Stadium with star QB Chase Daniels. This year, the teams are much more evenly matched, with Nebraska as the 3 ½ point favorite with a total...

#4 LSU will take on #18 Georgia in a marquee SEC matchup Saturday afternoon. The Tigers were fortunate to win at Starkville last weekend so they need to step up and prove they deserve such a high ranking. The Georgia offense has actually been better than the LSU offense and that will likely put the Bulldogs over the top in this one. Prediction: Georgia 28 LSU 21 #8 Oklahoma travels all the way down to Miami to take on the #17 Hurricanes. This may be the most interesting game of the day. Landry Jones...

#9 Miami will head to Blacksburg to play #11 Virginia Tech in a massive ACC matchup. The Hurricanes are favored by 2 on the road. Expect Miami to put 8 in the box and force Tyrod Taylor and the Tech offense to throw the ball. Jacory Harris and the Miami offense will do enough to pull off the win. Prediction: Miami 24 Virginia Tech 20 #5 Penn State will host Iowa this weekend in Happy Valley. Iowa ruined Penn State’s national title hopes last year and the Nittany Lions will want revenge in this...

Arkansas vs Alabama College Football Picks & Predictions - September 24, 2009

This is without a shadow of a doubt one of the most intriguing and talent filled games this weekend in NCAA Football. After last weekends gut wrenching shootout loss falling 52-41 to the Georgia Bulldogs, head coach Bobby Petrino better make sure he has his young Razorbacks team ready to face the #3 team in the country which is the Alabama Crimson Tide.  Right now, the college football lines show Alabama -17.5 over Arkansas, while the over/under is set for 58 points. Quarterback Ryan Mallet put...

College Football Odds: Iowa at Penn State - September 24, 2009

Big Ten supremacy is on the line when the Iowa Hawkeyes take on the fourth ranked Penn State Nittany Lions. Iowa spoiled Penn State’s national title hopes a year ago in Iowa City when Daniel Murphy split the uprights on a 31 yard field goal attempt to give the Hawkeyes a 24-23 victory as time expired. Both teams enter their Big 10 opener with perfect 3-0 records and know how important it is to start the conference season with a win. BYU vs Oklahoma - September 5, 2009

The Brigham Young Cougars enter the 2009 season with a spotlight game against an offense led by an assassin quarterback, last year’s Heisman Trophy winner Sam Bradford. BYU returns only four starters on offense, luckily two of them consist of their starting quarterback and running back. Max Hall leads the Cougars and is preparing for a very promising senior season. Last year he threw for an amazing 3,957 yards and 35 touchdowns. Harvey Unga is the starting RB and is primed for a big junior campaign....

2009 MAC College Football Predictions - July 27, 2009

Ball State went from Mid-American Conference heavyweight to lightweight contender in a matter of months. Coach Brady Hoke was gone before the 2008 season ended, and junior QB Nate Davis followed him out of town when he entered the NFL Draft. The new bully on the block will be Central Michigan, who aren’t really new to MAC contention. The Chippewas are 13-3 against MAC foes in two seasons under coach Butch Jones. He returns the league’s superstar in QB Dan LeFevour who averages 300 yards from...

The Turkeys will soon be on the table, and that only means one thing. 2008 Heisman Predictions After Week 11 - November 11, 2008

Graham Harrell (QB, Texas Tech) No letdown for Harrell or his Red Raiders last week as they took care of business against the Oklahoma State Cowboys.  Harrell stayed true to form with more amazing offensive production.  He threw the ball 50 times, completing 40 of them for 6 touchdowns and no interceptions.  The 456 yards Harrell threw for puts him way out in front as far as passing yards in the nation at 4,077.  Graham and company get a bye week this week to prepare for yet another huge game,...
