The Oakland Athletics haven’t been much a factor in the American League West the past few seasons, but are coming of a 81-81 season where they finished second the division behind the Rangers. It was the first time in four seasons the A’s didn’t finish below .500. Oakland’s pitching staff finished with an MLB-best 3.47 ERA, but the offense was one of the worst in all of baseball, and kept this team from the making the postseason.
