2011 Duke Football Predictions - June 15, 2011

After a strong 5-7 season in 2009, the Duke Blue Devils took a slight step back in 2010. They wound up going just 3-9 overall and just 1-7 in the ACC. While the win total was down, Duke wasn’t as bad as their record might lead on. Five of their seven conference losses came by 10 points or less. The Blue Devils head into 2011 with 14 starters back from last year, and should have the best overall talent since David Cutcliffe took over three seasons ago. Here is a look at what Duke will be sending...

2011 ACC Football Predictions - June 10, 2011

The ACC has struggled to keep up with the other power conferences over the last few years. They haven’t had a national contender in years. Virginia Tech is the only team that has won in a BCS bowl since 1999 back in 2008. As a conference they are just 13-21 in bowl games over the last four years. There are some signs that the conference is headed in the right direction. The ACC had 35 players selected in the 2011 NFL Draft, and sent nine of their 12 teams to a bowl game last year. Both Florida...

At the end of the 2011 NCAA basketball tournament the Associated Player names one student the Most Outstanding Player (MOP).  Even though this player is not required to come from the winning team, it almost always is.  The last person to win the award without cutting down the nets was Hakeem Olajuwon all the way back in 1983.  Here is a look at some of the past champions: 2010 – Kyle Singler, Duke 2009 – Wayne Ellington, North Carolina 2008 – Mario Chalmers, Kansas 2007 –...

Final Four Predictions - March 14, 2011

When filling out my NCAA tournament bracket I like to start from the Final Four and work backwards.  Decide who you think are the best teams in each region and advance them to the Final Four.  If you are going to take a chance with upsets, make sure you eliminate teams that you would have probably bounced in the next round anyway.  This keeps you from losing points later on in the tournament when each winner is worth more and gives you a better chance of winning your March Madness contests. So...

North Carolina at Duke - February 8, 2011

The biggest rivalry in college basketball is renewed Wednesday when the North Carolina Tar Heels visit Cameron Indoor Stadium to take on the Duke Blue Devils. Not surprisingly, this game will be nationally televised on ESPN at 9:00 EST for the country to see. This rivalry took a hit last year due to a down season for the Tar Heels, while the Blue Devils went on to win the national championship. With UNC on the rise and Duke still at the top of their game, it should be much more competitive this season....

Duke at Maryland - February 1, 2011

The Duke Blue Devils look to bounce back from their worst loss of the season when they travel to face the Maryland Terrapins Wednesday night. These teams are set to square off on ESPN at 9:00 EST Wednesday. College basketball odds show us a line of Duke -4.5 over Maryland with a total set of 149.5 points. Fifth-ranked...

Bradley at Duke - December 8, 2010

This Wednesday the No.1 Duke Blue Devils will host the Bradley Braves out of the Missouri Valley. The big story surrounding this game is the fact that Duke freshman point guard Kyrie Irving will likely not play in this game, thanks to a toe injury he suffered in the second half against Butler. The Blue Devils figures to have too much talent for the Braves to keep it close, but it will be interesting to see how this team looks without one of their best young players. Irving is averaging 17.4 points,...

2010 ACC Football Predictions - June 17, 2010

The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets came out on top in 2009 as the top team in the ACC, beating the Clemson Tigers for the second time in the ACC Championship Game. After a year in which 10 of the 12 teams finished at 4-4 or better in conference play, the ACC was a bit more wide open in 2009, with seven teams finishing at 4-4 or better. While both the Coastal and Atlantic division have some very good football teams, the coastal division appears to be absolutely stacked in 2010, as Miami, Virginia Tech,...
