The No. 20 Houston Cougars take on the No. 24 Penn State Nittany Lions in the 2012 Ticket City Bowl. The 18th-ranked Houston Cougars look to remain unbeaten Thursday when they host the Rice Owls in a Conference USA showdown. Houston has won seven of the last 10 meetings in this series overall, but Rice has actually taken two of the last three despite being an underdog in each. The Owls beat the Cougars 34-31 at home last season, which should come as no surprise considering the home team has won seven of the last eight meetings. 2011 Houston Football Predictions - June 30, 2011

The Houston Cougars came into the 2010 season with high expectations after going 10-4 in 2009. Injuries plagued them all year as QB Case Keenum was forced to take a medical redshirt after getting hurt against UTEP and knocked out for the season versus UCLA. The Cougars would struggle without their starting QB, falling to 5-7 on the year while missing out on a bowl game. With Keenum earning a sixth year of eligibility, this team is primed to make a run at the Conference USA title. Houston welcomes...

2011 Conference USA Football Predictions - June 29, 2011

The balance between the East and West divisions of Conference USA was pretty impressive heading into the 2010 season. They had split their games 20-20 and titles 2-2 over the previous four seasons since this conference went to two divisions. The East had the edge 10-8 last year, and also produced the best team in the UCF Knights as they beat the SMU Mustangs 17-7 in the title game. The Knights would go on to beat Georgia in the Liberty Bowl and finish #21 in the final polls, marking the first time...

2010 Houston Football Predictions - July 27, 2010

After finishing 6-2 in conference play and taking first in the CUSA West, the Cougars’ ran into a major roadblock, capping off a 10-4 overall season with a 47-20 shellacking by Air Force in the Armed Forces Bowl. The Cougars offense put up huge numbers and along with quarterback Case Keenum’s benchmark year at quarterback; Houston became the fourth team in NCAA history to have three receivers with over 1,000 yards receiving last season. But the defense was another story. The big question now...

Houston at Central Florida College Football Betting Lines - November 11, 2009

The Houston Cougars continued their amazing season last weekend with a stunning come from behind 46-45 victory over Tulsa. The Cougars recovered an onside kick and their kicker, Matt Hogan, made a 51 yard field goal as time expired to put them over the top. There were definitely very few football picks preseason that predicted the Cougars to be this good. Central Florida played Texas close for a half last weekend, but the Longhorns were too much for UCF to handle.  Central Florida is no slouch...

Houston at Tulsa College Football Odds - November 5, 2009

The Cougars are 7-1 this season and currently ranked #13 in the nation. They are coming off a 50-43 win vs Southern Mississippi in which defense was non existent. Houston has some great wins this season, beating Oklahoma State and Mississippi State on the road while also notching a big win vs Texas Tech at home. They are led by all-conference QB and soon to be NFL draft pick Case Keenum who has thrown for 3,293 yards with 25 touchdowns to 5 interceptions through eight games. Keenum has also completed...

Southern Miss vs Houston Betting Odds - October 30, 2009

Southern Mississippi travels to Houston in week nine to try and knock off the #15 ranked Cougars. Both Houston and Southern Miss are riding along the top of their divisions but a loss for either team would greatly damage that teams hopes for the Conference-USA title game. It should be a very interesting game. The Golden Eagles love to load up the run while Houston is a definite passing team. Therefore, after the game Saturday, I’ve got a feeling that we’ll be talking highly about either a strong...

Texas Tech vs Houston - September 24, 2009

As soon as you say the names Texas Tech and Houston you have to know that there is going to be a whole lot of offense, and that should definitely be the case Saturday night in Houston. The Texas Tech Red Raiders lost Graham Harrell and Michael Crabtree, but with Mike Leach still at the top the Red Raiders are still putting plenty of points on the board. Earlier this year the Houston Cougars made a name for themselves by defeating Oklahoma State in Stillwater. Houston is looking to be a real BCS buster,...

Houston at Oklahoma State Odds - September 10, 2009

The Cowboys certainly made a statement against Georgia in week one downing the SEC powerhouse 24-10 (which was my week one BEST BET). It took Zac Robinson and Dez Bryant until late in the second quarter to get their game back in form but once they did, it was off and running for Oklahoma State. Bryant caught three passes for 77 yards but two of those passes were clutch touchdown receptions. Robinson also was down yardage wise throwing for a very low 135 yards through the air but totaled three touchdowns,...

2009 Houston Cougars NCAA Football Predictions - July 15, 2009

The Houston Cougars had a pretty respectable season in 2008 finishing up the regular season at 8-5, including a 34-28 win over Air Force in the Armed Forces Bowl. The Cougars finished up Conference USA play at 6-2, good enough for a 3rd place finish in the West Division. This year the Cougars bring back a ton of talent on offense with 8 starters back, but will have their work cut out for them on the defensive side with just 4 starters back. The Cougars ranked 3rd in the Conference scoring nearly...

Houston 2009 College Football Predictions - July 3, 2009

The Houston Cougars are the West Division favorites and should be favored to win the C-USA title. A tough non-conference schedule with games against Oklahoma State, Texas Tech and Mississippi State will bring out any weaknesses the Cougars may have, but C-USA play is all that truly matters here. The offense returns all of its main skill players, and it will put points on the board similar to their 40.6 points/game last season. Now the defense has to come through to make this a special season in Houston....
