Morris Staying in Tampa Bay
Written January 5, 2010 by Jason Lowry
ESPN is reporting that the Tampa Bay Buccaneers have decided to bring back head coach Raheem Morris for a second season, after the first year head coach went just 3-13 in his first season. It was the worst finish for the Buccaneers since 1991.
The team did make some strides when they allowed rookie quarterback Josh Freeman to take over, including nice wins over Green Bay and New Orleans. The job is to now build the team around the young rookie, and with five picks in the first 100 selections of the upcoming draft, you have think some progress will be made.
I think winning two of the final three games allowed the organization to decide to stick with Morris, but if the Bucs don’t show some improvement next season, it will be hard for them to bring Morris back.
Keeping Morris and building the team around Freeman, should mean improved NFL odds for the Buccaneers next season, as they were a pushover for most of this season. I don’t think this will be a team headed to the playoffs next season, but if the right pieces are added this team could flirt with a .500 record.
