College Football Odds: TCU vs Air Force
Written October 8, 2009 by Kyle Hunter
Outside of Boise State the TCU Horned Frogs stand as the only other real BCS buster possibility now that Houston was eliminated from the stage last weekend. This weekend TCU will travel to Colorado to face an Air Force team that is a tough matchup for anyone because of their style of football and their consistency. This will be a hard hitting battle where everyone will go wake up the next morning feeling a little extra pain, and the linemen will probably win or lose the game for their respective teams. The TCU Horned Frogs enter this game 4-0 and ranked #10 in the nation after winning at Clemson and at Virginia earlier this year. Andy Dalton is their senior leader at the quarterback position, and Dalton does a great job of being efficient with his passes and taking care of the football. Dalton is a pretty mobile quarterback as well, averaging almost 4 yards per carry even when you include the yards lost because of sacks. There is no denying that TCU wants to establish the run first and foremost every single game. They have a full stable of talented running backs and a line that has proven it is a very good run blocking unit. On the defensive side of the ball TCU is extremely fast and the linemen are well-known for pressuring opposing quarterbacks. The defensive statistics are very impressive as opponent’s average just 240 yards per game and 14.8 points per game.
Air Force is 3-2 this season, but their two losses have come to quality opponents in Minnesota and Navy, both on the road. The Falcons do what they do every single year, run the ball very well. The option and hit you in your mouth football is their game and they have got it down to a science. The Falcons are extremely deep when it comes to the running game. In fact Air Force has 7 players with more than 20 carries already on the season. The defense has improved markedly from last year and is holding their opposition to an average of just 12.6 points per game this season. Air Force is a very tough football team, especially on their home field.
Looking at the current NCAA football betting lines for the game TCU enters as a 10 point favorite. The odds makers have posted the over/under at 43 points. Air Force has proven to be a tough foe at home, going 8-3 against the spread in their last 11. On the other hand TCU has covered the spread in both of their two road games this season against Clemson and Virginia, so something is going to have to give in this one.
This should be an amazing battle in the trenches when both teams have the ball, and the team that establishes the run the best will likely end up being the winner. TCU’s defense has had more of a challenge this year, so I’d expect them to push the Horned Frogs to a tight victory. The best wager in this game is probably the under since both defenses are so strong and the play clock will be rolling almost the entire game.
