TCU at UNLV

This Saturday the No.4 TCU Horned Frogs will look to keep their perfect season and National Championship hopes alive when they go on the road to take on the UNLV Rebels. The Horned Frogs come into the game this weekend off a dominating 38-7 performance against a pretty good Air Force team. The Rebels come in on a three game losing streak, but should be well prepared and rested after having last week off. If you are thinking about betting on the game this weekend, the current odds have the Horned Frogs favored by 35-points over the Rebels on the road.

TCU (8-0, 4-0 MWC): The Horned Frogs quietly continue to just dominate their opponents this season, and they are doing it with a powerful running game and the top ranked defense in the country. In the last four games the Horned Frogs have allowed just 10 points, and only twice this year has a team scored more than 10 points in a game against them. Last week they held an Air Force team to just seven points, the same Air Force team that played Oklahoma to a 27-24 game earlier this season.

As good as the defense has been this season, the offense hasn’t disappointed, averaging just under 40 points a game and 480 yards of total offense. Quarterback Andy Dalton has completed 65.5% of his passes for 1,635 yards and 14 touchdowns with just five interceptions. On the ground Ed Wesley leads TCU with 874 yards and nine touchdowns, but he isn’t the only one doing damage, as Michael Tucker has 450 yards and six scores on the year.

It really isn’t a matter of  whether or not TCU will win this game, but by how many points. The Horned Frogs have a huge game against Utah next week, so it will be interesting to see if they lack a little focus against a bad UNLV team.

UNLV (1-6, 1-2 MWC): It doesn’t look good for the Rebels this weekend, as they have really looked bad on both sides of the ball this season. Offensively they have scored 10 or less points in four of their seven games this season, and defensively they are giving up just over 36 points a game. Not a good mix when you are going up against one of the top teams in the country.

The Rebels just don’t have the offensive playmakers to even make this a game, and I would be surprised if they even scored a point this weekend. The only way this game finishes within four scores is if TCU completely looks past them, but even then I still don’t think the Rebels have a chance.

Looking at the Odds: I believe TCU head coach Gary Patterson is going to make sure his players don’t look ahead to Utah this week, as this team needs to dominate for them to continue to have a shot at the National Championship. Even tough its a ton of points, I think there is no question that you have to take TCU to cover the 35 point spread. Unless the Rebels run some fluke play or get a big play on special teams or defense, they are going to have one heck of time just getting a first down. My final score prediction is TCU 45, UNLV 0.
