TCU vs. Utah Football Betting Odds & Spread

Even though you normally have to wait till the weekend for big time games, this Thursday is different, as the No. 9 ranked Utah Utes host the No. 11 ranked TCU Horned Frogs in what is easily the biggest game out of the Mountain West we have seen in a while. Both teams were winners last week, as Utah stayed perfect with a close call against New Mexico 13-10, while TCU had no trouble at all disposing of UNLV on the road 44-14. The oddsmakers seem to be looking right past the fact that Utah not only comes in ranked higher and that they are playing on their home field, as TCU comes in 2.5 point favorites over the Utes at Bookmaker.com

Now its hard to argue with the oddsmakers if you take a look at just what this TCU team had done since losing at Oklahoma earlier in the season. They have racked off 5 straight wins, and a large reason for that is the 184 points the offense has racked up over that winning streak. During this stretch TCU has got great play out of quarterback Andy Dalton who threw for 151 yards and 3 scores in the Horned Frogs most recent win over UNLV. TCU has also ran the ball with success, as they racked up 259 yards on the ground. Now Utah will be a much tougher defense to face this week, its just we aren’t sure if that matters with the way this unit is clicking.

As good as the offense has played over the last 5 games, just about the same goes for the defense, as they had given up just 7 points a game during the streak before giving up 14 last week. There is no question Utah has the talent to win this game, and coming in slight underdogs could be just what this team needs to get it motivated to really come out and play well this season. But the offense that had been rolling all season really stalled last week putting just 13 points on the board. Utah actually out gained New Mexico by more than 100 yards with 388 total yards, but making the big plays didn’t happen. We expect the offense and quarterback Brian Johnson to have a solid game at home this Thursday.

The Utes defense has done what it has to to keep this team with a perfect record this season, and they might of came up with their biggest performance of the season keeping New Mexico in check when the offense struggled to do much of anything. Now as good as the defense has played, it’s going to get its hardest challenge yet when it takes on TCU this week. We expect a battle from start to finish in this one, as both teams are literally fighting for a shot to have a shot at finishing in the top 10 and maybe in Utah’s case a shot at a BCS bowl game.
