Teams to Avoid with 2009 NCAA Tournament Brackets

Written March 17, 2009 by Jack Jones

clemson-ncaa-tournamentIf you are like me you have been studying your 2009 NCAA tournament brackets for the last day and a half, penciling teams in and then crossing them out after you change your mind over and over again.  While you can use some of our advice here by viewing the 2009 expert NCAA bracket picks offered by our handicappers, we have also given you some surprise teams to watch out for.  With this article though we are going to focus on some teams that you should not be taking too deep into the tournament, but rather avoid falling into the trap of believing they are the real deal.  Head over to BetUS this March, where a $500 deposit will get you $500 in signup bonuses!

Clemson – The Tigers are a team that uses a soft non-conference schedule early in the season to build up their record, and then as they enter ACC play the team seems to fall apart.  This year has been more of the same as Clemson followed their 16-0 start up by going 7-7 over their last 14 games.  Over their last five contests they are 1-4, with that win coming over the 10-18 Virginia Cavaliers.  The low point though had to be in the conference tournament when Georgia Tech took them out, despite going just 2-14 in regular season league play.

Texas – Due to the recent success of the Longhorns program, this team is going to be perceived to be better in the public eye than they really are.  This team is 3-3 over their last six games with those three wins coming against the bottom dwellers of the Big 12.  This team has gotten inconsistent play out of their guards all year long and there is no reason to see that changing now that the tournament is upon us.  I know that AJ Abrams is a talented scorer who can shoot the three but he hasn’t gotten any help from his teammates.  Don’t pick the Longhorns to pull off any upsets as this is one team that’s stock is way higher than it’s worth.
