Temple vs. Kent State Football Betting Odds & Spread

Written November 11, 2008 by Jason Lowry

This Wednesday the Temple Owls will travel to Kent State to take on the Golden Flashes, as two teams near the bottom of the MAC Conference try and give their fans something to cheer about. The Owls blew a 20 point lead in the 4th quarter and then fell in overtime 33-27 to Navy, as for the Golden Flashes they had a huge 30 point 2nd half to make the game respectable against Bowling Green, but still fell short 45-30. . The oddsmakers are picking the Owls in this one, as Temple comes in 2.5 point favorites on the road over Kent State at BetUS.com

The Owls players have to be a little sick with what happened to them last weekend, as they looked like they had the game in the bag. The big plays were a fumble by running back Kee-ayre Griffin with just 36 seconds left in the game, that Navy used to return for the game tying touchdown. Then in overtime tight end Steve Maneri dropped a touchdown pass on 4th down, and the game was over. Now for an offense that is ranked near the bottom in total offense, the Owls racked up 409 yards including 340 through the air from quarterback Adam DiMichele who was very sharp completing 21 of 28 passes and 3 touchdowns. The Owls we need more of that this week if they want to make sure and take home a win on the road.

The Owls defense didn’t play bad as the team would of took home the win had the offense not turned the ball over. Maybe the Owls just got a little wore down on the defensive side of things, as Navy ran the ball 57 times for 293 yards. Navy only through the ball 10 times the whole game, but the Owls were able to manage to pick one of those passes off. The Owls will need another strong performance this week, as the Golden Flashes have played much better at home, and if the Owls don’t come to play they might go home empty handed. If the Golden Flashes take anything from the loss last week, it has to be some momentum on the offensive side of things, as they were able to score both on the ground and through the air in the 2nd half last week. Quarterback Julian Edelman was the force on the ground running for 170 yards and 2 scores, and through the air as he through for 219 yards and 2 more scores. Edelman did have two costly interceptions, but his performance was the only reason the Golden Flashes were only in this game. Edelman will have to have another big game in front of the home crowd this weekend, and we think he will do just that.

The problem is, even if Edelman has another big day, it might not be enough, as the Golden Flashes defense hasn’t been much to speak of this season, and last week it had no answer for Bowling Green as they gave up 462 yards through the air, with over 200 yards both on the ground and through the air. This week the Golden Flashes will have to find an answer for Temple quarterback DiMichele as they can’t afford for him to pick apart their defense, as he did last week against Navy. Bet Kent State +2.5 at BetUS.com
