Tennessee Titans 2009 Schedule

Written May 28, 2009 by Steve Janus

tennessee-titans-2009-scheduleThe Tennessee Titans surprised many last season, leading the NFL in regular season wins with 13.  For the 2009 season, however, a significant drop-off is expected.  According to the projected 2009 NFL win totals, the over/under on wins for the Titans is listed at 8.5.  Even on the high end, that’s 4 wins less than they earned last season, the product of what looks to be a very difficult schedule.  Let’s take a look at their upcoming schedule and see which games the NFL odds makers have identified as wins and losses for Tennessee. If you want to bet the NFL this season, or you’re just looking for a great deal at the web’s #1 sportsbook, head over to BetUS, tell them Betfirms set you, deposit $500 or more, and get another $500 to bet with this NFL season!  You can’t go wrong with that!

The Titans play a total of five pre-season games, starting with the Hall of Fame Game against the Buffalo Bills on Sunday, August 9th.  From there, Tennessee plays at home against the Tampa Bay Bucs on Saturday, August 15st.  The Titans then hit the road for a pair of games, the first at the Dallas Cowboys on Friday, August 21st, then they’ll play on Saturday, August 29th at the Cleveland Browns.  Tennessee finishes up their pre-season back at home against the Green Bay Packers on Thursday, September 3rd.  If you are looking for tickets to Tennessee Titans games this season, StubHub has you covered!

Week 1 - Thursday, September 10th at the Pittsburgh Steelers – The 2009 schedule has the Titans opening up on the road against the defending Super Bowl Champs. Tennessee is expected to lose this game.

Week 2 – Sunday, September 20th at home against the Houston Texans – This might be the year the Texans make the playoffs, but they won’t win here in Tennessee against the Titans.

Week 3 - Sunday, September 27th at the New York Jets – The Titans lost in Tennessee to the Jets last season.  Can they return the favor in 2009?  I do not think so.  Jets win this one.

Week 4 – Sunday, October 4th at the Jacksonville Jaguars – The Jags just do not have the offensive firepower to get past one of the leagues best overall defenses.

Week 5 - Sunday, October 11th at home against the Indianapolis Colts – The Titans probably come into this game as slight favorites at home and that’s exactly where I think this one ends up, as a tight Tennessee win.

Week 6 - Sunday, October 18th at the New England Patriots – The Patriots talented, hungry to get back to the playoffs, and very capable of beating the Titans in New England.

Week 7 - BYE

Week 8 - Sunday, November 1st at home against the Jacksonville Jaguars – Didn’t they just play these guys?  My opinion is that the Titans sweep the Jags this year.

Week 9 - Sunday, November 8th at the San Francisco 49ers – This is a tough game for Tennessee because the 49ers should be improved on defense and because of the long trip.  Ultimately, however, I think the Titans walk out with a victory.

Week 10 - Sunday, November 15th at home against the Buffalo Bills – The Bills added Terrell Owens in the off-season, but I still do not think that makes them a contender.  Titans win at home.

Week 11 - Monday, November 23rd at the Houston Texans – Houston will again have one of the best passing offenses in the league, I’m taking the home team on Monday Night Football in this case.

Week 12 – Sunday, November 29th at home against the Arizona Cardinals – Arizona’s struggles traveling east last season were well-documented.  I expect them to have even more difficulties in ‘09.  Titans win.

Week 13 - Sunday, December 6th at the Indianapolis Colts – The Colts get their revenge and beat the Titans in Indianapolis.

Week 14 - Sunday, December 13 at home against the St. Louis Rams – Not many teams will lose to the Rams, the Titans aren’t one of them.

Week 15 - Sunday, December 20th at home against the Miami Dolphins – It will be hard to beat the Titans at home, but at this point in the season I think Miami will have shown they have the chops to do it.

Week 16 – Friday, December 25th at home against the San Diego Chargers – If the Chargers have something to play for I think they upset the Titans in Tennessee on Christmas night.

Week 17 - Sunday, January 3rd at the Seattle Seahawks – My guess is this will be a meaningful game for the Titans, in which case they should pick up the victory.

Have to disagree a bit. I think they beat the Jets, sweep Houston, and beat Miami. I think they slip up against either Seattle or 49ers on the road. This leaves them 11-5. They also have good chances against Pittsburgh and the Chargers. I think no worse than 10-6, no better than 13-3.

The Titans will win against the Jets and Dolphins. The Steelers and Pats well overall both are talented and well coached but so are the Titans so even though those two teams are the best in the AFC, I wouldn’t be surprised if Tennessee can squeak out at least one of these. Overall record for 2009 11-5 maybe 12-4
