Tennessee Titans at Miami Dolphins
Written by Steve Janus
This Sunday the Tennessee Titans will look stay on top the AFC South when they go on the road to take on the struggling Miami Dolphins. The Titans loss 33-25 in their last game against the Chargers, but made a big move during their bye week, adding veteran wide out Randy Moss, after he was cut from the Vikings. The Dolphins lost 26-10 at Baltimore last week, and have decided to bench starting quarterback Chad Henne in favor of Chad Pennington. If you are interested in betting on this game, the current NFL odds have the Titans favored by 2-points over the Dolphins on the road.
Tennessee (5-3, 3-1 away): As if defenses didn’t have to worry enough about stopping Chris Johnson and the running game, they now have to worry about stopping one of the biggest deep threats in the game in Moss. The addition of Moss will lessen the loss of Kenny Britt, who was lost to a hamstring injury against the Chargers. Whether or not its Vince Young or Kerry Collins playing with Moss this Sunday remains up in the air. Young is recovering from an ankle injury and will likely be a game time decision. Young figures to be a better matchup with Moss on the deep ball, but Collins is a solid option if Young isn’t ready.
Even with the addition of Moss, the offense is still going to be centered around Johnson, who should have some fresh legs off the bye. Johnson struggled in the Titans last two games against the Eagles and Chargers, rushing for just 125 yards on 39 carries with just one touchdowns. The Dolphins have allowed just 107 yards a game on the ground, but allowed the Ravens 146 yards last week.
Miami (4-4, 0-3 home): The Dolphins are hoping a change at quarterback will get this team headed in the right direction. Henne threw three interceptions last week against the Ravens, and after eight games had just eight touchdowns to 10 interceptions. Pennington hasn’t played week three of last season, and it will be interesting to see if Pennington can get something going with wide out Brandon Marshall, who has just 1 touchdown on the season.
A big reason the Dolphins passing game has struggled this season, is they aren’t getting much of anything going on the ground with Ronnie Brown and Ricky Williams. The duo has combined for just 769 yards and a dismal three touchdowns this season. If the Dolphins are going to get things turned around and make a playoff run they need one of these guys to step up and get the ball moving on the ground.
Defensively the Dolphins released corner Jason Allen after he continued to fail to live up to expectations, and added veteran Al Harris who was recently let go by Green Bay, but Harris hasn’t since November of last season. The hope is Harris will be ready to play this Sunday, and with Moss coming to town, he could have a major impact on this game.
Looking at the Odds: Things just aren’t going the way the Dolphins had hoped for this season, and I just don’t think this team is good enough to beat the Titans this Sunday. I think the addition of Moss is really going to help the Titans offense take off. Not only will Moss open up the field for the rest of the receivers, he will keep defenses from loading up to stop Johnson. My final score prediction is Tennessee 27, Miami 20.
Got something to say?
