2011 Tennessee Titans Schedule

Written by

The Tennessee Titans opened the 2010-11 NFL season looking like they were going to compete for a division title. The success didn’t last long. After starting the year 5-2, Tennessee went 1-8 over their final nine games of the season. With the disappointing finish came some big changes within the organization. Head coach Jeff Fisher was replaced by Mike Munchak, Vince Young is expected to be traded, and Tennessee used their first round pick on Washington quarterback Jake Locker. With so many changes taking place it’s hard to expect the Titans to make another run at the division title, but with a stingy defense and running back Chris Johnson still in the mix, this team will still compete for wins.

To get a better feel for the how the Titans will look this upcoming season, let’s take a closer look at their 2011-12 schedule. For some teams it doesn’t matter who the opponent is, but for a team in transition an easy schedule can make a huge difference in the attitude of the team heading into the future. Unfortunately the Titans schedule looks a big challenging. Outside of the Titans six games against the Indianapolis Colts, Jacksonville Jaguars, and Houston Texans, Tennessee has to face the AFC North, NFC South, Denver Broncos, and Buffalo Bills.

The Titans went just 2-4 against their division rivals last year, losing both games against the Colts and splitting their two games against the Jaguars and Texans. While I wouldn’t be surprised if the Titans were a better team this year, it’s hard to see them winning either game against the Colts, which means they would have to sweep either the Texans or Jaguars to finish 3-3 in the AFC South.

Looking at their four games against the AFC North, the Titans are set to take on the Cleveland Browns and Pittsburgh Steelers on the road, while hosting games against the Baltimore Ravens and Cincinnati Bengals. Getting a win against the Ravens or Steelers would be a bit of a surprise, as these are two of the best the AFC has to offer. That will likely force the Titans to win at Cleveland just to pull off a 2-2 split against this division.

Things don’t get any easier in their four games against the NFC South. Tennessee has to go on the road to take on the Carolina Panthers and Atlanta Falcons. This team has the talent to win at Carolina, but I’m not giving them much of a shot at all at Atlanta. That leaves two home games against the New Orleans Saints and Tampa Bay Buccaneers. While Tennessee will have the advantage of playing on their home field, these are two of the better teams in the NFC and games they could easily lose.

The final two games to look at are the two conference games against the Bills and Broncos. Tennessee will go on the road to take on the Bills, and will take on the Broncos at home. Winning on the road is never easy, but I could see them winning at Buffalo. Tennessee lost at home to the Broncos 26-20 last year, so you can’t consider that an easy win even though Denver is in a rebuilding phase.  As of right now I think it will be hard for this team to top their 6-10 mark from a year ago.
