Houston Texans at Indianapolis Colts Betting Odds

Written November 5, 2009 by Rock Henderson

Points should come in bunches when the Houston Texans and Indianapolis Colts hook up this Sunday. Peyton Manning looks to lead his team to their eighth straight victory to start the season, while the Texans come into the match-up with a 5-3 mark and playoff aspirations on their mind. Both teams have been hampered by injuries, but Indianapolis seems to be getting healthy for the second half of the season. The Colts are listed as a 9 point favorite according to our NFL lines with a total set at 48.

Houston is hovering around its usual 8-8 finish once again this year, but a nice road win in Buffalo last weekend ran their record to a game above .500 and have Texan fans hoping this is the year they finally join the playoff party. QB Matt Schaub has asserted himself as one of the top quarterbacks in the league if he is able to stay healthy. Schaub has thrown for 2342 yards and tossed 16 touchdown passes with only seven interceptions in 283 attempts. He is lucky to have an array of weapons to utilize in the passing game, but lost dynamic TE Owen Daniels to a season ending injury. RB Steve Slaton took a backseat to backup Ryan Moats in their win over Buffalo. Moats carried the ball 23 times for 126 yards and two scores in his first real action of the season. Slaton has struggled to get anything going on the ground, but has been a big factor catching the ball out of the backfield. Look for All-Pro WR Andre Johnson’s numbers to spike with the injury to Daniels. He has caught 44 passes for 697 yards and four touchdowns while being the main focus of opposing defenses. As good as the offense has been, defensively the Texans have been admirable. They rank towards the middle in almost every defensive category besides rushing, which they rank 20th in allowing over 113 yards per game.  Don’t miss out on the unlimited 10% deposit bonus from Bodog this season.  You can use that extra cash to win betting the NFL.

Peyton Manning leads the top ranked passing attack in the NFL at just over 316 yards a game. With the Colts going to the air so much, the running game is only producing around 87 per contest. Manning’s stats are video game like, throwing for 2227 yards and five touchdowns with only four interceptions. The Colts use running backs Joseph Addai and rookie Donald Brown to setup the pass, but the two have combined for over 500 yards rushing and hit the end zone six times. When Manning drops back to pass, expect his first read to always go Reggie Wayne’s way. Playing at a Pro Bowl level, Wayne has snagged 51 balls for 689 yards and six touchdowns. TE Dallas Clark continues to prove why he is considered one of the top tight ends in the NFL as he has scored three times and has almost 600 yards receiving. Indy’s defense stepped up last week against the 49ers when the offense sputtered, holding the 49ers to 14 points which is just one point above their league leading average of 13 ppg. Safety Bob Sanders has returned from injury and defensive ends Robert Mathis and Dwight Freeney are forming the best pass rush in the league.

The Colts offense had a lackluster performance last Sunday, but don’t expect that to happen two weeks in a row. Houston has had some key players go down with injuries the past couple weeks and have taken advantage of the weak part of their schedule. Look for Manning to have a huge day and lead Indy to a double digit victory over the Texans. Play: Indianapolis -9
