Houston Texans vs. Green Bay Packers NFL Betting Odds & Spread
Written December 4, 2008 by Jason Lowry

The Green Bay Packers are in desperate need of a win this weekend when they host the Houston Texans, as the Packers lost their second straight game last week in a heartbreaking 35-31 loss to the Panthers. The Texans seem to be getting another winning streak going, as they won their second straight game with a 30-17 win over Jacksonville, and climbed out of last place in the AFC South. For those of you looking to do a little NFL betting this weekend, the oddsmakers have the Packers 5.5 point favorites over the Texans at BetUS.com
The Texans probably aren’t that happy with the way the season has gone, going 5-7 and spending a number of games without their starting quarterback, but the future continues to look good for this franchise. Last week against the rode the legs of rookie Steve Slaton who ran it 21 times for 130 yards and 2 scores in his first ever game on Monday Night Football. Sage Rosenfels wasn’t too bad either, as he threw for 200 and got the Texans off on the right foot with a 31 yard touchdown strike to Andre Johnson on their first drive of the game. Now this week it should be another big day for Slaton, as the Packers come in giving the 2nd most yards on the ground, at 144 yards a game.
The Texans defense has a lot of young pieces in place, and none looks more impressive than defensive end Mario Williams who used a 3 sack performance to raise his season total to 11, as a number of Texans had a good game in this one. They were solid against the pass intercepting David Garrard once and found a way to force two fumbles in this one. Now stopping the Packers passing attack is not quite as easy as taking on the Jags who really don’t have much of a threat on the outside, but we wouldn’t count out the Texans in this one. The Packers looked like they were primed to make a run to win the NFC North, but they have now lost 4 of their last 5, and last weeks loss to the Panthers has to hurt pretty bad, as it looked like they had this one in the bag. The Packers used a 9 minute drive that resutled in a field goal that put them up 3 with just a little less than 2 minutes to go, but a 54 yard pass to Steve Smith and a touchdown by DeAngelo Williams wound up sending the Packers fans home wondering what the hell just happened. Aaron Rodgers had himself a pretty solid game that included 3 touchdowns and 298 yards, but the running game of Ryan Grant just wasn’t what you might expect, as he had just 39 yards on 12 carries, but the Packers got a solid performance out of backup Brandon Jackson who had 80 yards on 11 carries. Look for the Packers to do whatever it takes to win this one, as another loss at home is pretty much season over for these guys.
The Packers defense couldn’t make the plays when needed and had no answer for DeAngelo Williams, who might of only had 72 yards, and 4 of the 5 Panther touchdowns in this one. Now the Packers didn’t give up a ton of yards in this one, but their redzone defense had no answer for the short yardage attack of the Panthers, as all 5 trips wound up as touchdowns, something that is hard for any team to overcome. Look for the Packers to bounce back this weekend with another solid performance, and if the defense can respond with a big game, the Pack should bring home the W. Bet Packers -5.5 at BetUS.com
