Texans Titans Odds

Written September 21, 2008 by Jack Jones

A distraught Houston Texans team will try to regroup after having a bye week to clear their heads when they travel to face a good Tennessee Titans team. The Houston Texans vs Tennessee Titans game should be a good indicator as to where these AFC South rival teams are at. The Titans have a new signal caller for the time being with QB Vince Young on the sidelines due to personal problems and a nagging knee injury. Young’s replacement Kerry Collins is a strong-armed, solid short term answer until Young returns. The Houston Texans vs Tennessee Titans NFL betting odds are Tennessee Titans -5.

Houston could be without starting RB Ahman Green so the job could be left in the hands of rookie Steve Slaton to show his stuff. slaton is a slahing runner that is undersized but has shown plenty of upside early. Slaton will have a stiff challenge ahead of him when he faces a stout Titans run defense. Tennessee has allowed only 121 total rushing yards in their first two games combined. DT Albert Hayensworth and DE Kyle Van-Den Bosch are two of the t D-lineman in the NFL. The Titans are getting great pressure on QB’s early recording 8 sacks which could disrupt Texans QB Matt Schaub. Schaub has not looked like his usual accurate self lately and, Schaub will be need a big game from WR Andre Johnson to pull off the upset on the road. The Texans O-line will need to provide Schaub with much better pass-protection than they did in the opener when they allowed 5 sacks to Pittsburgh. Houston Texans vs Tennessee Titans OVERUNDER is at 40 points.

Tennessee is not in dire straights as long as field burning, rookie RB Chris Johnson (4.24 40-speed) can get the ball in his hands. Johnson, combined with 250 Lb. bowling ball Lendale Whaite form one of the most potent rushing duo’s in the NFL. The “Temporary” Titans starting QB Kerry Collins, can haul the ball downfield in a hurry with his rocket arm but, his wideouts must get separation. Titans WR Justin Gage (4.40-speed) has impressed and become one of Collins favorite targets along with his big TE’s Alge Crumpler (6′2″ 262 Lb.) and Bo Scaife (6′3″ 249 Lb).  The Titans wideouts will be met by a well-rounded core of Texans DB’s.  One major challenge will be for the Titans to contain monster Texans DE Mario Williams (6′7″ 291 lb. 4.70 40-speed). Williams can take over games and the Titans must protect their lead footed QB Collins.

This is a major game for both teams early in the season. The Texans were really hammered and will be looking to take it out on the Titans. Besides Titans QB Vince Young’s “situation” Kerry Collins should do fine with a good team around him. Houston must play their A-game to beat the Titans who are well-coached.
